Question about Downmixing with analog set-up

My DVD player is set up to my home theatre with an analog connection (I can tell by the two chords, right?). There is no way to turn DOWNMIX "Off" with my DVD player (Sony NS55P), only from "Dolby Surround" to "Normal". The manual tells me to keep it at Dolby Surround.

With Casino Royale I get sound quieting issues only on that specific DVD player. I heard that it may be because of Downmixing. Besides downmixing, is there any other Analog Connection issues that may conflict with ecoding on a DVD trying to play the movie in a certain way?

Dolby Surround is most likely correct, as this is actually a stereo signal. When sending the signal to a receiver that does not have ProLogic processing, it will simply be played back as stereo, OR, choose the stereo track for DVDs. If you have a receiver that has a digital connection, you should be using that, then turn off any missing speakers in your setup and your receiver will redirect the sound to the speakers you do have.
