That isn’t garbage? I just want a relatively low cost WI-FI free music player I can listen to with a set of headphones.

It seems Walkman is a dying breed, a company called “HOTT” is garbage & then there’s Panosonic.

Do I have to bump up to a $600 Bose?

If you use a cell phone, just consider replacing it when your contract expires with an iPhone. You will have iTunes pre-loaded, which will get you immediate access to everything ever recorded in the history of recorded music, with a $9.99 a month Apple Music account. The AAC music will sound awesome from earbuds or when you use Airplay to send music from iTunes to your Home Theatre speakers, or with Bluetooth, to active portable Bluetooth speakers. Going cheap Walkman does not have any capabilities and thus it's cheap; but, that translates to expensive, since buying something that does not get you the results you are seeking causing you to re-purchase is always more expensive than just buying a product with the features you want in the first place.
