They are short, so tweeter height could be an issue, mebbe, if you were a tall person sitting close to them. They've won awards for price point value. They are offered in nice finishes. While I was listening to stuff at a nice store, to much pricier stuff, I made it clear to the dealer I wanted to hear these. (I just wanted to see if it was possible that a much less expensive speaker would sound just as good).
They were pleasant I suppose. Warm I would say. I listened to them side by side, switching out on the same Rotel gear with BW 703s, which killed the Quads, IMO, in detail. Now, I wasn't very crazy about the timbre of the 7xx series, but however the signature might be presented, there was nevertheless a lot more musical detail.
The dealer left me alone in the store, and trusted me while he grabbed lunch. I've also listened to Sonus, BW 8xx series there. NHT only in passing really. Maybe something else. Primare, McCormack, rotel, denon, etc.
And there's my unblinded, fully subjective opinion on the matter.
edit: i wanted to add that the bw's are about twice the price.
edit #2: my whole reason for finding this store was to listen to some Quad electrostats. They seem impossible to find. heh
