Hi all,
i am thinking of buying QSC RMX 850 amp to drive my fronts( PSB T45s).This amp is rated 200W into 8 ohms. Does any one have any experience with this amp?..

Have not heard that model but I have used QSC amps. The amp your talking about is a pro amp. I tried pro amps in a home situation once and was not to thrilled with the sound. While the bass was very good the mids and highs where very harsh. Im not sure why pro amps tend to sound this way but when I switched my Rotel (at the time)back in the sound was much smoother.

Now on the other hand when I hear these amps in a commercial movie theatre or hear them being used in clubs its a a different story. They sound great in these situations.

Some may differ on this. In fact I think someone on this site uses pro amps to drive his home speakers. The only area I could see installing a pro grade amp in a home would be for driving a passive sub.

Cheers,
Glenn

Background hiss

I don't think you'd be happy with the background hiss from the QSC or most professional live amplifiers, when listening at lower volumes typically associated with a home music or theater setting. The QSC excels at pumping out 200 watts RMS into 8 ohms, but keep in mind that it was DESIGNED to operate at high-current, high-wattage for long periods of times. The components inside the QSC are not optimal for lower volume listening levels, and you will probably find that the frequency response and signal to noise levels at low volumes aren't what you expect.

Personally, I like Crown and Mackie pro amps better than QSC, but they're all going to suffer from the same issues.
