I have a large irregularly shaped bonus room. My current 5.1 HT setup exists in a nook of this room. (See attachment). I have the speaker locations for the HT setup marked with Os. This consists of Axiom M80s, VP150 and QS8s for the surrounds. Because this is confined in the nook, when I want to listen to music or a sports program, I have to crank it up to hear it on the far side of the room. Obviously for anyone sitting near the mains, this is unacceptable.
So, my thought was to use the zone 2 setup on my HK 635 and a pair of Outlaw M Block 2200s to power four additional QS8s (two QS8s per amp). These are marked with Xs. I don't plan on cranking the zone 2 config to insane levels. I just want to fill the room with music or so I can listen to a game/race when I can't see the TV.
My questions are:
Will a 2200 (200 watt amp) push a pair of QS8s adequately? I'm assuming that I would just run speaker wire to the first QS8, double up at the posts and continue the run to the second QS8. Repeat the process for the other set.
Will the QS8s produce the effect that I'm looking for? That is, are they the best option for what I'm looking to do or should I be looking at four M22s instead?
The reason I'm opting for QS8s is that they mount flush against the wall in a compact package, would match the original pair that I have and should fill the room without being able to tell where the music is coming from.
Any other considerations?
Thanks,
