Q. Upgrade of older receiver recommended (to match new Klipsch speakers)?

Hello there! I just purchased a pair of Klipsch floorstanding RF-62 speakers, 500 watts peak.

I have a 15-year old receiver, Sony's STR AV770, 80 watts per channel (front), that seems to work fine w/ the new speakers. But I've read that when a receiver's "overworked," damage to the speaker (specifically, to the tweeters) can result. Is it recommended that I go w/ a new (ostensibly more powerful) receiver, to avoid damaging the speakers? Or am I, in all respects, safe?

Much Appreciated!

Your speakers are so efficient (meaning their effective output for wattage) that being fed with just 10 watts would produce crushing levels of output from a few feet away. Basically any receiver you get will work fine.

At 97dB spl sensitivity in an anechoic chamber, in room add another 4 dB. That is very sensitive and doesn't need all that power. 10 watts will be 110dBspl less the distance loss you listen from but it is very loud with not much power:D
But, if you need a new receiver for other sound conversions, movie sound with the new audio formats, that is another story though.
