Q about Optical input on Denon 2805

I just installed a Denon 2805. On one input (VDP) I've got an Apple Express providing a PCM stream. Sounds very good to me. However, I want to listen to this stream also outside using some wireless speakers. I've got the input to the transmitter connected to VCR2 out. I can hear most sources on the remote speakers (DBS, DVD, CD, tape), but not the apple express. Note I can hear it if I connect the express via analog input. Same problem occurred if I connected the transmitter to the zone2 pre-out (which is what I really want). Anybody have any suggestions?

My experience with wireless speakers is that your source must play through an analog connection. I may be wrong, but I think this is because output of digital beyond the speakers on any modern receiver is not permitted. If you have analog audio for the source, switch to that when you want to transmit outside and use the digital signal when indoors.

Interesting theory, and may well be right. But the 2805 has optical output, and specifically talks about connecting to devices with optical in and out.

In my situation, I have a dvd player, and a DISH set top both connected via optical, and they output to the wireless transmitter. Note that both these devices are also connected via analog, but the Optical input is selected on both. Is there some sort of digital rights management flag at work here. There's no mention of it in the Denon manual.

Correct. Regardles of how the digital output works, the receiver will not pass along a digital input to an output. It's annoying but most receivers in this price range do not pass a digital signal. I'm not sure how that relates to your wireless speakers. Are you using the wireless speakers on the zone 2 or 3 output? If so you will not hear a digital input. :(
