Purpleish picture from cable box hooked up to Pioneer VSX920

Hello everyone,
I'm writing regarding a problem I'm having with my new Pioneer VSX-920. I have an Oppo Digital DV 970, a Popcorn Hour C 200 and a Scientific Atlantic digital cable box (sorry I don't have the model number) all connected to the receiver via HDMI cables only. I've noticed that with the cable box and the Popcorn Hour, quite often when I go to access the channel guide or a menu, the picture will appear in shades of purple. It hasn't happened on the Oppo yet but I just recently had that hooked up. It happens quite often with the cable box and usually the only way I can correct the picture is to turn the receiver off and on again. There were a couple of times with the cable box that the picture corrected itself when I turned off the channel listing menu.

Can someone tell me what's causing this? I'm using the same brand (Mediabridge Ultra series) HDMI cables on all three units (I think) and so I'm not sure if it's the receiver or the cables. Should I try different cables? A friend of mine mentioned something about the signals "losing sync" and the only way to correct that is by resetting the receiver. It happens quite often though and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this receiver if this problem can't be fixed.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

How long are the cables?
Since you have a number of them, swap them around to see what happens just to be sure.
But, as your friend indicated, it is the HDMI that is the issue, not making a proper handshake for the encrypted video.
Are you sure the cable box and your subscription allows for that HDMI connection? Is the cable box set up to output in HDMI?
Not sure what the Popcorn Hour is but all the sources with that color issue has the same problems.

Also, you may need to experiment with the order of components being turned on first and last.

Bypass the receiver and if it does this again, it's not the receiver's fault.

"Losing synch" won't affect the colors, it results in complete loss of picture and/or audio. It's possible that one or more pins in the HDMI aren't making good contact- re-seat both ends of the cables.

I think it is just a handshake issue as mentioned. It happens to me from time to time and I usually just switch to a different input and then back and it solves the problem. I know it is a pain in the butt sometimes but with some equipment it just is the nature of the beast and you might not be able to stop it without changing out the source. You might try different sequences of turning things on but if all your system comes on at the same time that is a pain also. Good luck.:)
