Looking to spend $600 or so most ( I am on a little bit of a budget )

Heres is my current Setup :

Receiver - Harmon Kardon AVR430
DVD Player - Harmon Kardon DVD22
Console - XBox 360 Elite
TV - Samsung 46' LNT4665F
Mains - Klipsch SB3 Bookshelves w/ Wood Tech Stands
Center - Klipsch SC1
Rear - Klipsch Quintetts
Sub - Klipsch KSW12 ( needs replacing )

My living room is 11x18 - but the room is kinda open and thats 16x18

Currently I am using my very tired Klipsch KSW-12 which is very boomy and muddy sounding.

I am looking to replace it with something of higher quality and something that will go nice with my current setup. So far the only sub I have really been leaning to purchase has been the SVS PB10-NSD it fits the price range and from what i read will blow the doors off my current sub ( probaly isnt very hard ).

Please share experiences with this sub if you have any or let me know of some more alternatives in this price range..

I spend about 50/50 on HT and Music as well as video games but there just like HT.

Thanks Guys!

I would also check out....

Outlaw Audio

HSU Research

Both of these companies make fantastic subs.

I used to have a KSW 12 as well, and yes it does suck pretty bad.

Nice setup by the way.

Everybody is particularly keen right now on AV123 MFW-15. It is $599 and it is a 15" sub with good low extension. It is just starting to be delivered and everybody is waiting for some reviews to see what it is all about. It promises to be the best bang for the buck in that price range and higher. If you can hold off for a month or so, this could be a deal for you. I however am an SVS buyer and quite happy with my purchase.

600 bucks isn't a bad budget, but maybe just a tad shy of getting into the bigger players. If you can stretch it at all - even 60 bucks would get you what I have (SVS PB12-NSD) shipped to your door and it will blow that Klipsch clean out of the water.

As previously stated, the AV123 MFW-15 is the big flavor of the day and looks to be an incredible sub for the price.

$599 + shipping when they get them out there

EDIT: Hey, now I remember... I had to look it up. The picture of your living room looked way too familiar. :) Are you still having issues with your neighbors complaining? Any of the subs mentioned above is surely going to send them over the brink if they're complaining about what you have now. :D

Cool thanks guys, Any particular model of HSU or Outlaw? I will also look into that new 15' sub. I did look at the PB12-NSD but didnt know if it would be over kill for my mains or my condo + I have to warm the girlfriend to the size :)

The more the recomendations the better!

Check out the review for 5 mid priced subwoofers, MSRP 650-800, might find them less, but a fairly interesting comparison, with the HSU VTF-3 coming out on top. They reviewed the one with the turbo charger which is quite a bit outside your budget. However, if you stretched your budget $100 you could get it without the turbo.

Just for something other than SVS, HSU, A123, you might want to check out the Martin Logan Dynamo, I believe they stock those at the Magnolia store. Here is a link to another poster on audioholics about his recent purchase of a Dynamo.

Most of the subs we're talking about in this range are pretty large. You're going to have to butter her up if it's an issue, much like I had to do with my wife before I purchased mine. :D

If it's properly calibrated with the rest of your system it's not going to be overkill - most people assume larger sub = more power = more bass, etc., but what it really does is hit the right notes at the right time and with ample delivery, and reaches low on the frequency spectrum. I had a more powerful amp with my old JBL Sub 12 than the PB12 offers, but overall it stomps a mudhole in that JBL when it comes to outright performance. ;)

Quick question for you, Since you own a PB12.. In my Condo I can play it loud but not reference levels. Will the PB12 play everything not neccesarily louder but better than the PB10?

Im looking into all subs mentioned at this point but still contemplating PB10 or PB12.

Going fwd I will be checking out all the above.

Im sure any sub listed in here will put the KSW to shame and back!

Your sub will only play as loud as you calibrate it o play. If you set it up to play quieter, it will play quieter. But any SVS is going to be capable of producing much higher SPL levels than your KSW-12.

The 12 will go deeper and louder than the 10, but that doesn't mean you can't set it up to play at a reasonable volume.

Given the criteria and the budget, I would lean heavily towards a Hsu VTF2-MK3.

Cool I am looking into this sub now.. Any Pros & Cons to a downfiring vs front firing sub etc?

I like the fact that the HSU is a 12 vs a 10 ( no scientific reasoning )

Just wanted to add...

You may yield a little more output from your sub by placing it in the corner on the right, or even adjacent to the sliding door. Corner placement (in general) yields greater output than your current sub position. Experiment!
Then again...
I looked closely at your room diagram, you have plenty of room for a second sub behind the seating position...

He had problems with one of his neighbors a little while back and that is why the sub is located where it is. He's looking for more output without the help of room gain.

The SVS and HSU would be on my short list in his situation and then just keep an eye on what it's set at.

My assumption from looking at the photo was that this was a house...sorry. Apartment/Condo/Townhouse living makes HT choices much more difficult!
Yeah, what he said!
