Return or cancel the order on the speaker wire and you will have plenty of money for an Emotiva amp and a receiver or pre-amp.

Belden 5000UP or 5000UE would work just as well it you can buy it in bulk from westlake electronic supply. If you want to make it pretty, add techflex and get a couple sets of nice banana connection. It is about $0.50 a foot or you can buy a 500' roll for less than the cost of an 8' pair of the AZ interconnects. The belden wire is also in-wall rated for routing to the surround channels.

And check out the locking banana plugs from BlueJeansCable, they're really really really nice and very inexpensive, I use them myself, can really recommend them...

There's no picture of them here, but believe me, these are really good!

Greetings,

First - thank you for the kick in the head I deserved. I just got caught up in the excitement of finally buying something. The downside was that I should have had someone with me that knew Audio because everything sounded good on the painkillers for my burns, back, etc. I was really stupid, acted rashly and not responsibly, and feel I let you guys down who have been offering good advice from the very start of my joining the community. I'm sorry.

I am a fortunate man and the Adagio seller a man of integrity. He did not charge my credit card and canceled sale. He said that when I am ready to commit he will sell me just the front Adagio floorstanders, all speakers, no cable - whatever I decide on.

Since I read a link on the importance of timbre matching in HT I am not sure on having Transmission Line Front speakers and different designed CC and rears.

To save money I am not buying the Pioneer Elite KURO or non-elite version. I am waiting for May and buying the THX certified Panasonic Z800U in either 46" or 50" models. The prices I was quoted by an internet dealer with free shipping are fantastic. The pre-buzz on the TV's is spectacular. I will save thousands.

I am so relieved that I got out of the Adagio deal and cable mistake.
Tonight, I will post again. I am going to print out this thread and see what is helpful information. By now you realize that I want to put the bulk of my cash into GREAT sounding speakers for MUSIC first and HT second.

This time around - I will listen and am not going to any other forums - just this one. They all wished me "the best" and did not question my stupidity. I'll take honesty over cordiality any day when it comes to investing money.

All Ears Now,

Yes, please don't even think about buying any until we approve first.:D

So basically, you will be buying speakers based on reviews, specs, and word of mouth? I think that is okay as long as you have a way of returning them if you don't like them.

I don't know if this is just too low-end for you, but Aperion Audio offers a free in-home audition with free shipping both ways.

Are you still buying the set of gently used Adagio from the gentleman on the other forum? Or did you find a local dealer for the whole set? I hope you have had a chance to hear them. I think getting the whole matched set is a good idea since the budget will allow it.

Kudos to those that saved you from the overpriced wire. The choice between receiver and preamp will be up to your preference. Generally, receivers that will properly handle those speakers will be fairly expensive. Choosing an Emotiva combo or the Yamaha 663 with the XPA-5 will probably turn out to be the most cost effective solution, with the benefit of eliminating any question over having enough power.

Relax and enjoy the process. You're at the most exciting point in the search with some excellent options in front of you.

Wow.
A forum that shows there is some common sense left in this world. So many are filled with constant disrespect and ego. It's always "me, me, me", and expecting others to do everything for them.
People here are so beyond just helpful. It doesn't matter if you have $200 or thousands.
People here actually take advice, apologize, admit when they may be wrong.
This place rocks;)

Oh....to those that celebrate......Happy Easter :D

Some lessons in life are free, or inexpensive, others, can be expensive. Perhaps you learned a great lesson to carry with you from here on out. :D
You rush into things, you may get burned. Don't reinvent the wheel.:D
But, don't feel bad. Others have gone through similar life events.

This also applies to music, not only HT since music is more and more multi channel.:D

If you are already saving thousands, I bet it is still an expensive TV. You may want to rethink this too, if you want to invest that kind of $$$ in a 46"-50" TV. Maybe a front projection system is in order for you?

Don't rush into things, especially this kind of purchases as life does not depend on it. :D

very nice speakers ..

Not sure of your budget, but for the $7,000 worth of speakers you have you might wnat to consider a high-end Marantz or Yamaha AVR. The Marantz I have, SR8002, would probably drive you speakers but you might want to go to an even higher model, the SR9600. Or the new top-of-the-line Yamaha, RX-Z11.

Probably a better high quality cable buy would be blue-jean cables. However, you need to remember, almost all wire is the same as long as you get a big enough gauge ( smaller number is larger), 14 or larger.

What else will you drive TV plasma, projection or LCD ? DVD?

Good lick and enjoy :D

Midcow2,

Whatever I get in terms of amplification or A/V Receiver it has to have all the latest bells and whistles in terms of A/V codecs.

I do like the Yamaha RX-Z11. Not familiar with the Marantz SR9600.

Emotiva has a 5 channel amp called the XPA-5 that I am considering. They are also coming out with an updated Pre/Pro in June for a reasonable amount per their sales dept.

I could also buy a Yamaha 663 and use XPA-5 as Power Amp.

Blue Jean Cables this time around. I learned from my mistakes.
