CONGRATS on your spanking shinny new BD player, Zumbo!

I love my Denon DVD-3800BDCI, and I'm sure you will love your new Marantz BD8002!:)
I wanted the Yamaha, but after I got burnt with the bass management on the last dvd-a player, I decided to look elsewhere.

I looked at the Denon next, and I had decided to get it.

Then, I was informed of the build quality and weight of the Marantz.

23.1 pounds.

This is still a serious compromise, and I'll explain why. Assuming that you actually apply x-over to at least one speaker, if not all, your sub is not only just outputting LFE. It is also outputting all summed bass (rerouted bass) that would normally go to you other speakers if they were set to large.
It's doing this now. My receiver will manage bass via digital input. So, I am currently utilizing a 60Hz x-over anyway. System was calibrated with the 60Hz x-over point in play. 'Tis all I can do. Gain on sub @ half.

IOW, by turning the sub gain to get the correct LFE level, you have also now disproportionately raised your summed bass at the same time. Therefore, if you turn up sub 10 db to get it even, your summed bass is all running as 10db too hot.
My reply was a joke. As I stated above, all of my bass from any source, except m/c inputs, is bass managed by my AVR.

I just searched a bit for you regarding this player. I have nothing definitive as of yet, but will share what I have found thus far. Before I do, most players that output via m-ch analogs have LFE cuts. Typical is -10db, but I think I've seen -20db, and other variations.
Thanks. I am sure we will have plenty to talk about after the unit gets here. But, as I mentioned, this looks to be the best player available for my specific needs

The latest post in the AVS 8002 thread says this (however, this is PRESUMED that this unit is identical to the Denon 3800):
Can't be identical. It weighs 13 ponds more. Kinda diminishes the integrity parts of that thread. I mean, that is a very easy difference to find. No technical background needed. One just has to be able to read.

I hope it works out, and you find the solution you need. You may have FW updates coming your way. My own bdp, the Pana BD-30 had a -5db cut that I did know about when purchasing, and was fixed about a month later, IIRC.

I do plan on updating my receiver to a Marantz pre-pro in the future, which should solve this issue. Until then, I think I can handle this minor set-back. Thanks again for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Actually, the Denon DVD-3800BDCI weighs 22.8 lbs.

The Marantz BD is 0.3 lbs heavier.
I was looking at the specs at OneCall. http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=89258

Comparison on their site:

Well, at least there is no concern now about the Denon being a better purchase. Glad to see it.:D

Marantz does come with a three year warranty, compared to Denon's one year.;)

Another great reason to purchase from the professionals @ Audioholics.

Marantz is a big-time name. Highly regarded reputation and build quality.

For me, it's about cosmetics/aesthetics and component matching.:D

If I owned Marantz components, I would have gotten a Marantz BD.

I understand. I have seen your rack of equipment, and it is fine. Most of my equipment is Yamaha, but I had been noticing the lack of features offered at each price-point compared to Denon over the past few years. I had made-up my mind I was switching to Denon. Then, currently, I have really been digging what Marantz has to offer. And, at the moment, Audioholics doesn't offer Denon. I plan to use Audioholics as much as possible for my audio needs. To date, they have the most knowledgeable people in customer service from a net dealer I have ever talked with. And, what they offer with each purchase can't be touched by any other online site I know of.

Oh, and they sell MB Quart!:D

You know once in a while I get this dirty thought of switching over to 3 of those Marantz PM-11S1 Integrated Amps! It would probably be more tempting if Marantz were to come up with a Reference (Gold-matching color) Universal Player that does BD, DVD, CD, SACD, & DVD-A!:D

Also throw in a Reference matching Marantz HD Tuner.:D

I do like Marantz A LOT.:D

Hey, wait a minute. Are you thinking about switching all your gears over to Marantz, like the new Pre-Pro + Amp?:D

Sorry for the run-on sentences.:p

I usually only look to Yamaha, Denon, and Marantz(in order) when making a component purchase. Through the years, looking mostly at bass management for receivers and players, it changed to Denon, Yamaha, and then Marantz. As time has went on, Marantz has really jumped on the wagon. Now that their features are up-to-par, they offer a three year warranty, and they have come-out with the reference series, I have put them in front.
Marantz
Denon
Yamaha
While Yamaha does still seem to offer great bang-for-the-buck products, equipment lacking features and control in exchange for a lower price-tag is certainly not what I am looking for.

Yeah, I just looked at the Marantz website. They sure offer a lot more NEW COMING SOON products than Denon, which makes me a little jealous!:D

You never know about the future. If Marantz offers a Reference BD/SACD/DVD-A & Tuner in the future, here I go again.:D

don't forget pictures zumbo! (front and back)
Here are the pics that were requested. My house is dark, and I suck with my wifes camera.

Now, if my POS Toshiba 1080p LCD will get back from the shop, I could check this unit out.

Put the camera on a flat surface/tripod in front of the player, get some kind of environmental lighting facing the player, and turn off the flash.

Awesome player! Marantz has been good to me, I could see myself getting something like that one of these days(years).

It never ceases to amaze me that people who are able to spend $2k on a player own 0.00001 megapixel cameras. :D

Imagines that Marantz player coupled with the latest JVC LCOS 1080p projector displaying a 120" image. ONE DAY!!! ONE DAY!!!!

Well I got my 8002 yesterday, played some CDs and watch a full DVD "Master and Commander", Russell Crowe. Not in BlueRay. I must say this is the warmest running CD/DVD player I have ever used. It calls for 10cm clearance above which I only have 6.5cm. But I bought the studio tech for my components so this will not be an issue. I exchanged the Sony BDP-s2000ES, there flag ship for this Marantz. Only because the Sony would not play alot of my Rhapsody purchased Cds. But with that said the Sony has two separate sections for audio and video, and the ability to turn off all actions from the video when listening to audio, great plus, and the sound is slightly better then the Marantz. But the volume level is slightly higher on the marantz at the same setting. The Sony weighs like 34lbs, and has a better front design for the button like a piano. Only it is not BlueRay and will not play the CDs I want to play on it. It is $700 cheaper and it is really a winner!! For those of you that like Sony, I agree they put out great products.

Really Sony maks good audio stuff? That would be news to me..... I got rid of all my sony stuff except the playstation. I had a few pieces and got rid of them because I got a chance to listen to other things and sony didn't EVEN compare to the Denon and Yamaha and Marantz products...Just my opinion:eek:
