PSB T55 Tweeter Blown

So I rently ditched my EMP system in favor of a pair of PSB T55's that I found on Audiogon locally for $450 which is a pretty good deal. Well one of the channels went out on my Yammie 663 so I ordered the Emo UMP2 which I currently have. I was in the process of moving at the time and didn't really get the chance to listen to them but they sounded fantastic with the 663 before the channel went. After listening to them for a week at the new place I could never quite get them sounding balanced as the right channel was much more prevelent than the left even when the right channel was reduced. So today I got a chance to mess with it a little. First I checked the bi amp bridges and they were fine. Then I took the tweater and crossover out and made sure the connections were good. Luckily I have a pair of B15's in the bedroom so I pulled one of the tweeters out and they sound great now. So im assuming the 663 must have taken the tweeter out.

I know we have a member or two that has had to replace their tweeters of the same line that I have. Where do I buy one and how much is this gonna cost me? Thanks guys!

IIRC, I think the tweeter is like $25. I could be way off. My dealer told me the bass/mid drivers are like $75, and that's at his cost.

Just contact PSB directly. I've had good experiences when contacting them. You can also just try though a local dealer if you wish.

If you ever want more T55s or a C60 at some point in the relatively near future, lemme know. I've solicited a couple of folks here, but I won't put up any ad until I get around to saving my money for speaker parts to build a new three, let alone successfully building them. I have two pairs of T55s, and one of those pairs I'd sell for very cheap because it was a repair project (damaged on way to dealer, so I took them off his hands at his cost with the understanding that I get any needed parts as free under warranty). You could have spare drivers galore haha, though admittedly you'd have to blow at least a couple of drivers to get your money's worth.

If you want to see some internal and bass driver shots of your speakers, here ya go. Please forgive my absolutely non existent photography skills.

edit: the repaired speaker above is acting as my new (and temporary) center speaker behind my DIY AT screen.

IMO, one of the more prominent attributes of these speakers are the ability to crank, at least as a subjective impression regarding price point competition. You might consider adding a very affordable 2 or 3 ch amp to your 663 if you want to push them. I have the feeling they can handle more power than what a 663 can cleanly give.

I had the same thing happen to me when I first bought my A/V-2s. My old Marantz integrated amp had one channel go and it took the tweeter of the speaker on that side with it.

Best place to check would be with a local PSB dealer if possible. Unless you know where they are serviced, I don't think it will be too easy to find the drivers on your own unless they are discontinued models.

Thanks Jostenmeat I might be hitting you up for a C60. Im not running them off the 663 im running them off an Emotiva UPA2 and it sounds fantastic.

Thanks JG I will check a local dealer.

Cool. The C60 is immediately available (it was my former center before going with AT screen). My guess is that it only has a thousand hours on it. (I say that because I think it got pulled after about 1300 hours total on my PJ, and of those, there are a lot of dead/silent hours so as not to over-strike the unit). Oh yeah, it wasn't even the first center used with my PJ, I got this to finally "match". The last photo shows the only tiny blemish I found, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to buff it out. It's a pretty big center though, again relative to its peers.

I suppose the only reason I'd hesitate to sell it is because I might more easily be able to sell a pair of T55s if I had the matching center to offer. Hmrz. Iono. Then again, it's of no use to me right now, and I need money for more toys!

I had to replace a tweeter on my Image 1Bs (B15 predecessor) and it costed me $100 Cdn according to the dealer but he ordered one for me and absorbed the cost.

Just in case someone comes across this information down the road.....

I went on PSB's website and they emailed me back promptly. Informed me to call a number which I did and was able to order a new tweeter right from them directly to the tune of $64 with shipping. All in all I'm a pretty happy camper as I know it could have been much worse.
