Already late for me, as already made my decission and purchased my speakers. But, a friend of mine was praising the PSB Image he heard. Looked for info on the T55, but found very little. Did find a lot of reviews on the T45.

Who owns this series, and what do you think about it? Is the T55 worth the higher price vs. the T45??? Apparently the T45's offer one of the highest value to performance ratio in the industry.

The big difference between the T45 and T55 will be frequency response. The larger T55 will just go lower than the T45. These are specs from PSB website.

T45
Frequency Range
On Axis @ 0° ±1.5dB 48-20,000 Hz
On Axis @ 0° ±3dB 35-23,000 Hz
Off Axis @ 30° ±1.5dB 48-10,000 Hz
Lf Cutoff -10dB 30 Hz

T55
Frequency Range
On Axis @ 0° ±1.5dB 45-20,000 Hz
On Axis @ 0° ±3dB 32-23,000 Hz
Off Axis @ 30° ±1.5dB 45-10,000 Hz
Lf Cutoff -10dB 28 Hz

Sometimes bigger doesn't always mean better. I remember a while back when auditioning the Paradigm Studio Series I auditioned the Studio 40, 60, and 100. I found the Studio 100's incredibly boomy which IMO destroyed the mid range. The Studio 60 on the other heard were not boomy at all with very detailed mids. My favorite out of the entire studio line are actually the 40 which are not even floorstanders.

I'm a very happy owner of the T45. I can recommend this speaker without reservation. I spoke with the local audio dealer fro PSB and he let me audtion both. Although the T55 can play a little deeper, I really didn't notice a lack of bass from the T45s at all which confirmed to me what he said prior to the audition. "Do you want to spend another $150 for an additional 2 to 3 Hz of extension in the bass? He was right. To me it wasn't worth it. The T45s can play as loud as the T55s, image just as well, resolve details just as well. The only thing it can't do iis extend lower into the bass. by the 2 to 3 Hz. The Image T45 is a remarkable speaker IMO.

I liked the 40's too.

PSB T45 AND 55 were on my audition list but I could never find any.

Thanks! My brother just bought a complete T45/C40/B15 set with a 10" Paradigm sub (don't remember which one). I have not auditioned yet, but he says they sound great.

Apparently the T45 is a wiser choice than the T55 for all around performance, movies and music, as from what I read the T55's deeper bass can get in the way of imaging and mid performance, making them sound "muddy", don't know what that means. But, for mainly movies, then the T55 is a better choice than T45.

Congrats(to your friend:eek:), the image T45's I've auditioned IMO had excellent imaging and detail. Even though I haven't heard the 55's or 65's I don't think the term muddy is a good characterization. Considering they come from the same image line, they simply have much more bass and IMO that is better for music:).

Enjoy your new system, PSB's are terrific speakers.

Congrats to your bro . I'm sure he'll be very happy with his new system. Curious, why did he go with the Paradigm sub (PDR-10?) . Things may have changed when I audtioined it like 6 years ago *L* but back then, the Subsonic5 provide much more slam than the PDR-10 and was fast and accurate enough to use for music.

I wouldn't call the image T55s muddy either. Just a little more powerful in the bass that requires a little careful placement by the owner is all. "Just a little to the left dear....no no further back.. little more now to the right!! :p

I don't know why he chose a 10" Paradigm sub, but it is my understanding that it had to do with price, his room area, and availability at local dealer. Most dealers here have their demo items, most models, and a very limited inventory, usually they'll order when you buy, and it takes about 2 wks to receive. Buying one from the mainland would have been more expensive, when taking in consideration that a subwoofer is a large, heavy, and bulky item to ship.

On the T55's he doesn't have too much room to play with them for properly, maybe a few inches, and that's it.
