PSB Image 6T's?

Hey all...been lurking the forums for a few weeks now but need some help deciding where to go. I've decided to purchase and Onkyo SR805 as my receiver but need some decent tower speakers to replace the pieces of crap i currently have.

I just talked to a guy that's local that has a pair of older PSB Image 6t's with bi-wired monster cable hooked up to an old Adcom GFA 545 pre-amp. Now from my own research i've pretty much just found good reviews of the 6Ts and the adcom, even though they are pretty old are still good amps. The speakers are in perfect shape and he said he'd let them go for $300 with the cabling and he'd throw the pre-amp in for $100 if i wanted it to go along.

So what i'm wondering is if i should jump on the speakers? Or would it be worthwhile to grab the preamp too? Or should i wait for something better to come along. I know for a fact there is someone else locally selling the smae speakers and he wants $500 without the cables. Any help would be appreciated.

At $300.00 per pair means a $600.00 savings over new T65's, which is the newer version. Go for it, and see if you can get them at $250.00/pr., so you can brag about the great deal you got. Obviously, it depends on working and cosmetic condition of the speaker. The old PSB Image Series (4T/5T/6T) was an excellent performer in their category, and as always probably the best deal around in their price range; you will not be dissapointed.

Bypass the pre-amp all together, it will not offer anything that your Onkyo offers, plus your Onkyo being a newer version has the bells & whistles one needs today, the Adcom doesn't. If you want separates, buy good amps and use your Onkyo as a pre-amp, and AV controller.

gah...new question. i just found a good deal of Polk RTi10's for the same price $300...but without the cabling. I know the RTi10's are great but are they on par with the PSBs? Or is this really gonna come down to personal preference?

Regardless price, looks, performance based on numbers, etc. It always comes down to personal preference. IMO, PSB is still a better buy.

ok great. i'm gonna try to at least listen to the polks in a store this week since the rti10s are still being produced...and try and listen to the psb t65's since they should be at least similar.

Remember to take lots of notes while auditioning because hearing memory is poor at best. I mean, the accuracy of what we heard fades rapidly. Make sure you take notes on basss response, not only deep but is it fas and tight or loose and boomy, kinda 1 notish? Are the mids revealing, life like? How do they sound with female vocals or notes from a piano? Are the highs revealing but subtle or are they out in your face, overly bright and tiring to hear after a while?

Make sure you bring music with you that you know intimately and use the same music to compare both speakers. Listen to music, not movies because music is much more difficult to produce accurately then a movie soundtrack.
