PS5 for Blu-Ray player?

I've read that the PS5 doesn't support Dolby Vision or Atmos, but that it will at least bitstream Atmos to your AVR. So really, if you want Dolby Vision capability, you won't get that unless you use a dedicated device. Apparently the new Xbox only supports Dolby Vision on games and streaming, not blu rays too...

  • I would get the disc version regardless of whether it's going to be your dedicated player or not. This only makes sense.
  • In most things it depends on what your goals are and what you're willing to spend for ROI. For me a player that has auto tone mapping is irreplaceable at this point in my rack. The improvement in astonishing. I would assume that the upscaling is going to be much better in a dedicated player as well.
  • The only way I would buy a console in 2020 over a PC is if I just have the money to burn and plan on getting both and the console being more of a novelty collector's item to use casually. That's just my two cents.

$130 CAD (which converts pretty close to the $100 USD price tag)

I seem to end up buying Sony stuff all too often as well... though I still hold a grudge for them selling me a BetaMax VCR :p
