I really don't think the ability to play PS2 games is that big of a deal. First, you still have a PS2. I know that it's not the ideal solution, but if there's a game that you love so much that you cannot live without playing, keep the PS2 hooked up and use it. The PS3 is designed to be connected via HDMI anyway, so it's not like you're taking up an input by keeping the PS2 plugged in. Second, I've had my PS3 since October, and I had a decent collection of PS2 games (I generally sold them off every 4-5 months), and I have yet to play one PS2 game in my 60 GB PS3. The PS3 game quality blows the PS2 right out of the water. Most of the major franchises are releasing their latest sequels on the PS3 sometime this year (e.g. MGS, GTA, DMC, GoW), so I don't think there's much that existed on the PS2 that won't be available on the PS3 by the end of the year.
