PS3 to 7.1 channel analog audio..?

Hey all, first post... so feel free to haze the noob if I ask a dumb question here; I've got a PS3, and an Onkyo 7.1 surround system, and currently I've got it hooked up with a S/PDIF cable, which is fine for dolby and DTS, but I'd really like to take advantage of some blu-ray movies and games with 7.1 channel PCM discreet. My receiver sadly, does not have HDMI support (I didn't have the coin to shell out for that), but it DOES have analogue 7.1 inputs. Now here's the rub - is there any way to either A, get 7.1 channel analog output from a PS3, or B, convert the HDMI audio output from the PS3 to analog with some sort of HD Audio D/A converter?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Currently there is no such adapter/converter that will do what you're asking. I had the same isssue myself and even e-mailed Sony to see if they had ever though about such an add-on. Of course they responded that they had no plans to market such a device, blah, blah, blah...
You can get 2 channel analog PCM audio using the RCA stereo adapters that are usually included with the multi/av output.

Your best bet is to save up for a new receiver that will allow you to use HDMI for your audio as well. Just make sure you get one that has an HDMI repeater, not just a switch. I would reccomend the Onkyo TX-SR605, as the 505 and below models won't process audio via HDMI.

Well, that's the thing - I know that HDMI audio is still somewhat in it's infancy... I've also read a lot of very negative reviews regarding that particular receiver. Currently, I have the Onkyo HT-R540, and am VERY happy with nearly every aspect of it (though I'd prefer to have all the speakers be the same as the front stereo speakers, but what can ya do... though this is an easy fix later on), with the exception of its lack of HDMI. I do know that there are a lot of receivers out there with 7.1 but no HDMI, so it seems to me that a standalone HDMI decoder may be a pretty worthy and marketable item. Furthermore, it'd be an opportunity for a manufacturer to make a pretty spiffy D to A converter and integrate it to that widget, and possibly even capture some of the market of people who HAVE HDMI receivers but want a better D to A conversion, OR the market of people who have HDMI receivers that are out of date.
