My setup is as follows:

Onkyo TX SR 875
Polk RM 6600 and PSW 350 in a 5.1 setup
Samsung 46" 650
40 GB PS3 - also linked wirelessly to my home desktop and laptop to play music

What should be the music settings on the PS3 to the receiver? There are two basic settings I have seen:

- Bitstream Y/N and type (1/2/3)
- 48 Hz of 44/88/176 Hz

Currently, I have left the settings at Bitstream type 2 and 44/88/176 Hz output.

With this, the music from my PC gets streamed fine - I get various sound mode options include All Channel. But when I play CDs, it gives only 2 channel output and none of the 5 channel sound modes are available.

What should be the PS3 settings be and would be great if you can let me know the basics of why.

I would go with bitmapping type 3 for cd playback. Not sure offhand what settings I have for music cd though, as I always play my music from my PC as well. But the times I have played a CD I was able to put the receiver in 7 channel stereo mode, and I'm pretty sure I have it set to PCM for everything.
