ps3 5.1 receiver

hi there i have a ps3 and run a 5.1 system...

my system is 3 rc mini centers and 2 c-50 surrounds with the s8.3 sub

i have an entry level receiver and want to upgrade...

id like to take advantage of the ps3 hdmi audio as well as video

any suggestions?

how much difference does a better receiver make for sound quality.

my budget is around the 500.00 range

is the harmon kardon avr147 any good

A 147 for $500 is not a good deal. Go to the HK ebay store and you'll be able to do a lot better.

The Harman Kardon AVR-147 does not support audio over HDMI, the AVR-247 does. The Harman Kardon AVR-247 is the most feature laden receiver in your price range in overal versatility. Close behind it are the Yamaha RX-V661 and Onkyo TX-SR605 (the Onkyo TX-SR605 is probably my least favorite of the three).

I have TX-SR605

I have Onkyo SR605 and it is great. Has to HDMI inputs 1 out. So you can attach your PS3 and you cable or Direct TV. I have PS3 with DTV on a Panasonic 50" Plasma. Man it looks soooooo good. I use the PS3 for Blue ray and play Call of Duty 4 online. Man the sound and picture is unbelievable. Also the SR605 has the upgraded v1.3 HDMI for the future. not that you need it right now but good to have.
