my ps2 is hooked up to a samsung digital reciever via optical cable. when playing games, the linear pcm light appears on the receiver and the pro logic 2 light does not appear. when the connection is through rca cables, the pro logic 2 light appears and the signal is no longer linear pcm. isnt an optical cable supposed to provide digital sound and the best quality? if so, why is the signal being recieved as linear pcm?

someone's going to have to confirm this for me but here goes, pro logic isn't digital at all, it's a way of spreading out 2 channel stereo amongst the rest of the peakers you have set up. To use the dolby digital you will have to go into your PS2's settings and enable this feature. Also the games you are playing might not actually have been encoded with Dolby Digital 5.1. Check the package. There's a dfference between Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital 5.1, as I had to find out the hard way.
