Has anybody ever tried to add more cooling fan to a projector? I am going to try adding additional fans and maybe even an exhaust duct for my ceiling mounted Optoma H78-DC3. My plan is to add an additional 60mm, 80mm and 92mm fan on the cooling ports of the projector. I was planning on using the projector's 12V trigger to fire a relay to a 12V tranformer/power supply and use a pot to control the speed (and noise level).

I think our Resident Highlander :D might have tried this, has anybody else had any success?

After an hour or two the projector just CRANKS heat into the room.

No. But, if you are thinking of this, be sure the 12V trigger has sufficient capability to throw a relay. I am talking putting out the necessary current. Some new projectors don't and need a special one. 2.5ma is peanuts. I tried a reed relay at 11ma and would not operate:mad:
So, before you start experimenting, find out what it can output in ma.

Hello
I would not be comfortable blowing air into the intake of the projector.
I think it would be wiser to turn the fan around and use it to draw hot air away from the discharge vent.

I was only thinking about an 80mm fan mounted directly to the filter holder. It wouldn't add much air. I really just want to add a fan to the exhaust just to help boost the air toward the AC intake vent (which is only about 3 feet away). And maybe a small duct to get it there.

I have tray ceiling so the heat just stays up there.
