Programming a Dish remote to control a Denon AVR1802 Receiver

Hi,
Maybe someone has encountered this before- I'm trying to program the AUX function on a Dish Network DVR remote to control my Denon receiver (model AVR 1800). I have tried the following procedure using various Denon receiver codes that I found online, but none have worked so far.

I also have the original Denon remote if anyone knows a way to get the code from that.

1: hold down the AUX button on Dish remote.
2: key in receiver code
3: push the hash key (#)
4: try to use some functions on the receiver.

any suggestions/ideas are appreciated!

update

another update on this- i found some instructions that documented 2-way "learning" for the dish remote.

hold down function (aux) button until all fn buttons flash
hold down record (red button under the pause button) for a few secs
(now the function button is lit)
press the button you want to program on the dish remote
press and hold the corresponding button on the device remote (denon)
(keep on flat surface within 4 inches. ensure good batteries in both)


...i tried this many times, but have yet to be successful.

am i missing something?

solved

once again, it was something stupid.

the method i posted above is correct and works well. i had both remotes faced at each other and nothing was working.

i found a small 1cm by 1cm receiver on the left side of the dish remote (near the 'menu' and 'sat' buttons-- this is where you need to point the denon remote.


Alternatively, if you don't have the secondary remote, simply hold down the function button till they all light, push the power (or whatever) button on the dish remote, and press the channel up button to cycle through all the codes until the receiver powers off (or whatever other function you choose).
When this happens, push the # button to store the code.
