Hi everyone
I have the Yamaha RXV863 and a Sony PS3 connected through HDMI cable.
I am expecting from the receiver to play the audio of a blueray movie in the native audio format, either DolbyTrueHD or DTS HD 5.1, as they are played by the player. When I play a blueray movie, for example The Dark Knight encoded in DolbyTrueHD, or The Day After Tomorrow in DTS HD 5.1, I always end up with a Yamaha CinemaDSP Effect. Yamaha effects use basic PLII or DTS decoders which are slightly modified. I DO NOT WANT THEIR EFFECTS, I want the native DolbyTrueHD or DTS HD decoders to decode.
I HAVE TRIED AVERYTHING POSSIBLE, but I'm not able to get the front panel symbol for TrueHD or DTSHD to light up, when playing these kind of sources.
What is happening ,do I have a defective unit?
Is it a configuration issue? All my settings for audio are set to Auto.
Is it a bad HDMI cable issue? What should I do? Please Help !
Thanks a lot
Titus

Make sure on the receiver that you have "straight through" selected so it doesn't engage any of Yamaha's sound fields. Then I suggest lloking at the output settings of your PS3 and make sure its sending out raw or bitstream and that all downmixing is turned off.

Only the PS3 Slim can bitstream the HD audio, otherwise you will see PCM on your receiver, and you can verify that the PS3 is decoding the proper format by pressing the info or select button on your PS3 remote/controller. If you don't have a slim PS3, and you select bitstream as your output, you will be limited to only standard dolby digital or dts.

I also forgot to mention that you will want to use the surr. decode mode on your receiver so you son't end up using the Cinema DSP modes, you could also use straight, but if you do that you will only see straight on your receiver's display, along with a tiny indicator of PCM, dts, or Dolby Digital.
