The reason I'm not thrilled with the responses is that I love having 400 CDs in the one unit, it's such a time saver switching cd's, and space saver since all the cases are kept boxed up in the basement- I've LOVED this unit for 5 yrs !!

Be patient with me Zumbo...I fully understand your suggestion for a DVD player and the fact that most of you don't like Sony CDP's so I will ask only once, is there ANY other unit that holds 300-500 cd's all at once that's worth the price for a new one and getting a 5 yr warranty through Circuit City (they're great with their warranties) and just going through the change again in 5 years ???
Hi Glynch,
I've be in virtually the same position as you, a few years ago.
Came close to getting a Sony 400 CD/DVD player, for all the reasons you've stated.
My plan is to get something like The Sonos Music server. I'm waiting, because these servers seem to be getting better every year.
For now, as a stopgap, I'm ripping my CD's to an external hard drive, and /or burning compilation CD's. Also, my Integra AV receiver is tied to my computer network, and hard drive.
It's not perfect, but it's good for now.

No.

After a little research, I see that Yamaha is the only one (between Yamaha and Denon) that offers a 5-disc universal dvd player. They have two models.

Crutchfield is authorized to sell Yamaha. Customer service is great.

Just to throw in my 2cents worth, I've had a Pioneer 300-disc jukebox for a couple of years now, and it works flawlessly. I also have two Denon single-disc universal players. The reason I have the CD-only player is the feature that none of the universal players have: shuffle play. The Pioneer (and Sony) also let you compile playlists from the installed discs, which is a feature I use frequently.
The skipping problem you're experiencing is undoubtedly caused by the transport circuitry/mechanics failing as the unit heats up. It's probably not cost-effective to have this thing repaired, as a new player would probably be about the same price.
To go a step further, as others here have mentioned, a media server is probably the smartest thing to move to these days. I considered those when I bought my jukebox, but they were just too expensive at the time. Prices have plummeted since then, so you might just consider moving away from mechanical CD players altogether. That's what I'm going to do next.

Yamaha has shuffle, program, and the ability to change out discs while playing as well. I usually pop 5-discs in mine and hit random. If I decide one needs to be changed, I will just hit playxchange, swap it out, and I am off again. All without interrupting the music.

Not sure about Denon and Marantz.

I have a DVD-C750 and realy like it, being able to play DVD-A and SACD is a great thing to have (for me anyway). I think this is the Pioneer Geno is talking about.
Onkyo makes a 6 disc changer too.
