Problem with integration between Yamaha receiver and Linn amp

I recently purchase a Linn LK280 amp from a friend. I currenlty have a Yamaha RXV2400 receiver and i tried to use it as a pre. So, this are my problems:

1. Every time that i turn off the Linn amp I can hear a strange noise from the speakers, not too loud, that eventually dissapears.

2. Every time that i change source (CD to DVD, etc) i can hear a noise like if i was connecting or disconnecting something, this is a low noise too, but it's annoying. The noise is like when you connect a guitar to an amp.

The amp uses a balanced connection and the Yamaha used RCA connection. So i soldered a pair of cables, in one side a RCA and the other side the "microphone" XLR balanced connectors. I don't know if this would be the problem. I double checked the connections and they're correct.

Currently, i'm thinking in two possibilities:

1. A capactor discharging
2. The difference between input-output impedance on the devices.

Any thoughts?

Oh my

First you need to buy a balanced to unbalanced coupler, I think you can get one from cardas for a few bucks. I think that is your main problem. look here!

Second you must always turn off the amp first, or else you will get a thump from your speakers. And the reverse when powering on, the yamaha first, then the linn.

I have an old B&K 202+ that does the same thing with my Yammy. When I turn off the amp a few seconds later I hear a "whoompf". Or when changing input sources. I've learned to live with it.

I brought home a B&K 200.5 for a test drive & noticed it didn't do it.

.....I had a couple of older Carver mt 1.0 stereo slave amps that had the fish in the aquarium swimming sideways sometimes with the pop of turning them off no matter what I turned off first....a modification at a local repair shop fixed the situation for about 100 bucks for both.....

This is killing me. What kind of repair did you do to your amp?
