problem with Integra DTR 7.8 / Onkyo sr805

Anyone else have this same receiver and had a problem like this? Anyone have this same receiver and not having this same problem.
Both my Pioneer DV-F07 and my Wii console are set to output 16x9. The Wii is going into the DTR 7.8 on component 1, the dvd player is going in s-video. I am having the integra convert them to HDMI so everything can go to the TV (sharp Aquos lc42d64u) on one cable. The problem is, the receiver seems to be converting the 16x9 signal to 4x3, so everything looks very tall and thin.
I called tech support and they weren't very helpful. I already tried the monitor setting on the misc menu, and that is only supposed to affect the OSD anyway, but I noticed that it didn't seem to do anything. I also tried resetting to factory defaults at the suggestion of tech support, which accomplished the deletion of the Audessy and input settings and that was it
I am just wondering if anyone has this same receiver and is not having this same problem, so that if I ask for a replacement its not going to do the same thing.

Hmm. I don't think this is the receiver I think it is your display. Set the receiver to "through" mode which will not try and upscale or change the signal. Then see what it does. I have the 885 and I set it to upscale to 1080p so it will fit all content to 1920 x 1080.

Do you have your display set to stretch or normal mode?

When I set my TV to stretch it fills the screen but I can see distortions, because the TV stretches more the farther from the center the image goes. a circle in the center of the screen looks stretched just a little bit vertically. If I put the TV on normal, I get a 4x3 image with black bars on the sides and the image looks very vertically stretched.
If I set the TV to normal and run something that is already hdmi (ps3/cable box) and is widescreen it fills the whole screen.
I would rather just let the integra upconvert to component instead of hdmi for these except that I really like not having to switch inputs on the TV because my sharp doesn't have discrete input commands.
