Bill from ca. new to the forum. i recently purchased a
denon avr-2808 and had a problem with no video coming from
hdmi output to monitor. it worked fine for a couple of weeks
and then stopped working without changing any settings. i
returned the receiver and upgraded to the 3808ci. the same
problem with this receiver , worked fine with directv and ps3
for a couple of weeks and now back to black screen , no picture.
directv and ps3 work fine when i bypass receiver and go straight
to monitor. the cables are all highest quality monster cables
and seem to be fine. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks......Bill

There has been a few video issues like this with Denon lately. Call Denon. Somebody mentioned there may be a firmware update to resolve these issues.

Another possibility is the sequence that you turn on the components. That handshake issue is a bear with some. Try to turn on the video source first, then the audio components and see if that works. If not, do it the other way.:D This helps some components.

Nice call. This is tucked away for future reference.

The handshake refers to the constant communication between HDMI connected components. Each component will send out a signal over HDMI on a regular basis to other connected components. If the signal is not returned or an improper response is received from any link in the chain, the system will not function.

Just to add to Davemcc's post. This is caused by the copyright protection protocols when the digital domain video signals are passed to ensure it has a legitimate components and passages for it to be transmitted on, to minimize stealing or the crown jewels, so to speak, the digital signals that can be reproduced without degradation over an awful lot of generations. Like having the master tape at your disposal.

Yes, today's audio world is getting so complex that I have no idea what the average home handles all this. They probably don't at all.
