Problem with Denon 3803 upconvert

Hey guys,

I'm using my 3803 to upconvert the s-video signal from a tivo so I only run the component cables to my monitor.

When I do this, the TV is showing green and violet bars running slowly up the screen. They are barely noticable, but once you see it, you can't take your eyes off. The bars are about half an inch thick and there's only one on the screen at a time.

When I play a component source through the receiver, there are no problems with the image.

The 3803 is well out of warranty. Anybody know any solutions?

I would check by switching to another source (DVD player?) using the s-video port to make sure it isn't the TIVO box. Also swap s-video cables...

Just a thought, I believe when upconverting the component out will be interlaced. A progressive component signal will be routed throgh the amp with no problems. Is your monitor OK in handling interlaced signals?

Simple check

You may have already done this, but un-seat and re-seat the s-video connection at both ends to make sure you have no problem there. Sounds too basic, but I've seen similar problems that were corrected by this.

I had the same configuration w/my old TiVo and didn't encounter this problem. You may want to try a different input on the receiver as well or if you have the ability, connect the s-video from the TiVo directly to the TV to see what results you're getting. If it is receiver related, swapping the s-video input to a different one should correct it. -TD
