Ha good call:D i listen to alot of FZ & anybody else who was talented enough to cover his work,The whole King Kong album by jean-luc ponty smokes,im listening to the Zoot Alures album right now but when its finished im poppin in King Kong, ponty's rendetion's of "The idiot ba$tard son" & "How'd you like to have a head like that" are two of my favorite cuts.

By any chance have you seen Zappa's universe yet? its only out on vhs but its still a great tribute concert.
Oops, I meant "Jean"-Luc. Good catch, HFH! No, I haven't seen Universe, but I'd like to...guess I'll have to wait until it comes out on dvd since I no longer own a vhs player. I'm only a semi-literate Zappa fan. Early on I collected his records: Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Mothers Live at the Fillmore, Uncle Meat...along with his proteges Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica) Wild Man Fisher (Wild Man Fisher) and Col. Bruce Hampton (Aquarium Rescue Unit). But alas, when I got married to a non-Zappa appreciator (THAT should have been a red flag right from the get go!) I missed much of Frank's productive years. Now that I'm back to living in unmarital bliss, I plan to catch-up with Mr. Z. A friend of mine once invited Frank over to his house after a show in Charlotte and he showed up! They ended up eating hotdogs in the backyard with his mom. How cool.

Regarding Prince, overall I can appreciate his talent, but his music is not my style. Does anyone remember his 30-second version of "All Along the Watchtower?" It went by so fast...I wanted to hear him do the entire song. I didn't notice the lip and guitar synching, but I was listening, not watching that closely. It makes sense that playing electrified instruments is dangerous in the rain, but I was recently watching last year's "Bonnaroo Festival" on a hi-def channel and it was thundering and raining like crazy. I forgot who was playing at the time (Gov't Mule? Ratdog?) but they stood there playing like nobody's business. Were they being stupid or was there a safety mechanism in place I don't know about?

I think they were being stupid. Electricity and water don't mix, I've heard of singers getting zapped when they've touched wet mics, as for playing in the rain, you've got to be nuts.
