I've come across a couple of attractive DIY pre-amp kits, reportedly with very good results: one from Oatley using the Raytheon JAN6418 sub-miniature tube (~$30 stock) http://diyaudioprojects.com/Tubes/6418-Tube-Preamp-Headphone-Kit/ and one from Bottlehead (~$99 stock) http://www.bottlehead.com/store.php?crn=220&rn=438&action=show_detail http://diyaudioprojects.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1099 One guy reported that the Bottlehead kit made him shelve his NAD pre-amp, it was that good... Ha. Also, I've come across an Onkyo P-3200 for $50 on craigslist... So I'm pondering which one of these options to try. Has anyone here built a pre-amp themselves from a kit?
