I hope we won't see snake oil from this source. I think it is more in the line of "if you can't beat them, join them."

Westlake Audio have built fine well crafted studio systems for the professional recording industry since 1971.

They were one of the greatest exponents of the "West Coast Sound."

There signature was, and is, beautifully crafted wooden horns.

However these types of systems are not as popular in the popular recording industry as they used to be.

I think they are having a hard time competing with the likes of ATC and PMC.

It is telling that in days gone by Westlake sales were 70% pro. Now it is only 30%, with 70% now being domestic audio.

Whereas ATC is now almost entirely a professional speaker company. Billy Woodman told me he would be long out of business, if it were not for the US professional market.

The domestic speaker market is not only crowded, but declining.

In days past most homes had a dedicated audio system, now few do, let alone a decent AV system.

They is now much more competition for the electronic dollar from computers, ipods, ipads, and iphones and the like.

So I suspect they are hurting financially.

Any idea if they have new ownership or new management?

It is a shame they haven't been able to maintain their position in the market, but P.E. (Profit Enhancing?:)) Distortion is a disappointing tact under any circumstance!

This is from one of their speaker sheets I just read:
integral P.E. antennas which draw the rogue electrons back into the speaker where they are directed to a real (speaker muff,

What is it?

That sounds very bad, and did not come across that howler in my quick review of their site.

This is very sad, as Glenn Phoenix has produced fine speakers for over 30 years. He does not need to descend to that BS.

The movie Avatar was mastered using Westlake monitors.

I have been having a correspondence with Quad over their recent cable line.

I have been talking to a veteran employee from the Peter Walker era.

He says the cables have been demanded by their customers. They want their cables to carry the Quad brand and be made to believe they are the absolute best.

I bet Peter is turning in his grave. "Wire is wire," he always said.

I suspect Peter would have had little sympathy for a chap with an illogical faith in funny cables. However his honesty never made him rich and they fact is that Quad made little money over the years he owned the company. However his contributions where of a priceless nature.

As I have said before the root cause of this is a gullible public, in fact worse they have some bizarre psychological need to have to believe in this nonsense.

I think it is one of many symptoms of a defect in the educational system in the western democracies. Obviously people who need and buy into this sort of nonsense, are fairly wealthy and presumably have jobs and careers which require responsibility and discerning judgement.

No wonder we are in trouble and flying headlong into the brick wall.

+1. I couldn't agree more. Math, science, and rigorous thinking are secondary considerations in secondary education.

Yes, and as long as they are fed nonsense to satisfy their beliefs, nothing will change, I am afraid. After all, money is the driving force of it.

John Dunlavy did the same with his speaker cables but I don't think he made any special claims for them and conducted DBts with cables, including his. ;):D

Consussion...

I may be a victim of all the ovewhelming talk of concussions these days in sports, but concerned I am. See, after reading the first paragraph I somehow dozed off and the head fell onto the wood desk. Woke up, headache, still bored and feeling like I somehow got ripped off. Have i too suffered from this fatal concussion pandemic, or did I deserve it from attempting to read this garbage?

Did that PDF actually say ANYTHING?? All I saw was weird grammer and (incorrect)puncuation.

Just read another one of the papers:
To do this, the system’s “effective dynamic range” (what we hear) must be brought up to a level
that is closer to the systems “potential dynamic range” (equipment specs). Super Duper Cable Muffs,
Westlake Audio Cable Muffs, Omega Cable Muffs or just plain Cable Muffs are just one of the tools that
the audiophile or recording engineer will require to optimize the “effective dynamic range” of the system
Oh man, I can;t stop...

How’s Your P.E. Distortion™?
Top 10 Reasons You have P.E. Distortion 1
1) You’re Not using Edison’s Cylinders.
2) You have many (uninvited?) guests in your listening room.
3) You leave your silver discs scattered around your listening room.
4) You use electronics with lots of negative (NFB) feedback.
5) You use wires without a P.E. Bus™ and unorganized by Cable Muffs™.
6) You use loudspeakers in the same room as you and your equipment.
7) It has/has not rained recently or is currently...
8) You haven’t learned how to defeat the laws of physics*...
9) You have every piece of electronic equipment you have ever used, or are likely to use in the next 10 years, in or in the immediate vicinity of
your listening room.
10) You have an expensive, state-of-the-art playback system.

WOW, just wow. Really?

I thought you were making up that top 10 list! Then I went and found it on their website! This guy is a charlatan, no 2 ways about it. If he were to tell me these things to my face while trying to take my hard-earned $, he would receive a swift and strong pimp-slap. Seriously.

The real gems:
7) It has/has not rained recently or is currently...
Is there ever a time that you could NOT be in this situation?

8) You haven’t learned how to defeat the laws of physics*...
And, you never will*, that is why they are the "laws of physics"
*not in this dimension anyway :D

I think when I get a chance I am gonna have to email them on this. I can't decide if I wanna throw the BS flag up front or act as an interested customer.

I'm sure mtrycrafts has already fired off a few e-mails to Westlake's corporate website.

My first posting here. Over on the Polk Audio Forum I made the mistake of interjecting comment from Blue Jeans Cable about cables into yet another flame war on the subject, and It was like a scene in an old Western movie where the cowboy in the saloon gets beat up and thrown out threw the from door onto the dirt.
