Possible regrets...

Greetings,

I've been running my new H.K. 347 for about 10 days now, mostly conditioning my 50" Panny's pixels. During setup, I had some trouble getting a video signal ( HDMI ) to the t.v., but it soon appeared and I just assumed I'd finally hit the right button. No problem with the feed from the PS3 either.

This morning I fired it up and....no video signal. I get audio from the digital cable box, but no video. I get nothing passed on from the PS3. I have no other HDMI-equiped t.v. with which to test the HDMI cable output.

The techie @ H.K. advised me to take the 347 in for service.

Have I bought myself a lemon of a receiver??

HDMI is notorious about "handshake" issues with TVs/receivers, etc.

For example, when I connect the HDMI from my BD player to my projector, it works perfectly. But when I hook the BD Player HDMI to the OPPO HDMI box first, then to my projector, I get nothing at all.

Another issue I had with the PS3 + HK247 when I owned one was the video setting on the PS3! At first I got nothing at all. Then I had to play with the video setting on the PS3. I can't remember, but I had to change the 60fps to 30fps or vice versa or something like that.
Did you set the HDMI output resolution to AUTO instead of 1080p? If the HK is 720p or 1080i, it might not work unless you change the PS3's setting to Auto or something.

This model has been known for issues, but I'm not very sure what these issues are suppose to be. I think they are outlined at AVS. I might consider going with a different model, or possibly brand, depending on what's available at the price point.

Hmmm...shaky handshakes, eh?

Can't be sure right now what the HDMI output resolution was - I've already fired off the receiver to the shop! I seem to remember it was on auto though. I reckon if the tech. reports no problem with the unit, then I'll have to fart around with the settings, though the system did work ( mostly ) fine for those 10 days. I had perfect audio & video running from the receiver to the t.v. from both sources. Then "poof" - no more video. The other issue was that when playing an audio cd on the PS3, I only got sound from the two front speakers. I was still trying to get sound from all the speakers when my system suffered the video meltdown this morning.

Do you or anyone know if H.K. receivers are historically more problematic than other brands? I have an inexpensive, 10 yr. old Sony receiver powering my original H.T. & have had not a single problem with it. The H.K. was a great deal, so I jumped. Perhaps it may have been wiser to spend more for a Yammy or Denon etc.

I only like lemons in my zombies.

Regards,
DSD

My Yamaha 3800 has occasional handshake issues with my cable PVR. A momentary switch to a different input source and then back on again solves the problem.

Lucky you...

...that didn't work for me regretably, as did none of the other tricks.

Shite!

Thanks anyway.

...could you tell me what "AVS" is & where I might find it?
