I' so disappointed I wasted 2k on this unit. I have 2 front speakers a center speaker and 2 rears.Turned all the way up my clockradio is louder crappier but louder. Also my DVD player which works fine on 2 other receivers I have on this one the audio cuts in and out. I bought this based on great reviews, again so disappointed

Wow! That sucks!
Thanks for the warning, I was considering getting one of those, but now I'll do more research and find something else!

Thanks for letting us know! This is such in-depth review. Practically science paper.

POS brand receivers....noted.
I thought it was just me: I completely whiffed on what the OP was trying to describe.
Thanks to the fine brethren on the AH I can rest assured that I'm not a complete dolt.
At least not on this post.

I think new members with less that 5 posts can't use brand names. I wonder if that's the case here.
However even so, I'd expect him to give a hint to us regarding actual maker

that's an interesting tidbit to know. I think another OP (Ferrara) mentioned that in his/her first post.
I learn something every day. Most things like this occur because of a reason. Rest assured then, first timers have probably been spamming the heck of out somebody

Okay, now we know the avr, a generally very well regarded one so I suspect your setup is less than ideal....so provide more specifics please. Let me ask what speakers you're using, what distance you are from them and what your spl preferences are. Also, why rears in a 5ch setup? Rear surrounds are in 7ch setups...

Did you use YPAO to set it up or some sort of manual effort? Why do you call surrounds rears? What sub are you using? Why an avr far above your expenditure on speakers?

Manual set up with Yamaha service on the phone. Upgrading the fronts soon.Well maybe not if it sounds this weak.Im calling them rears because they are behind my couch. No sub.I have one but no cable for it yet. I bought the AVR because the reviews were great. It had enough power to power my system according to all the forums and all my speakers are well within the limits of the AVR

If you want a larger screen to work from during setup, find the AVR's IP address and type it into the address bar of your browser, and put /setup at the end.

Did you biamp your mains? If so did you remember to remove the jumpers? Either the receiver is defective or something really wrong with the setup.

Hmmmm. One of the best brands for reliability. One of the best models. Something ain't quite adding up here. There's a chance OP got a lemon, but it's pretty rare with Yamaha for a new one. Their QC is top notch.

That receiver should have BOATLOADS of power, so not sure what's up.

Maybe the setup details might help...manual on phone sounds funky. I would run YPAO.

And then verify YPAO's results. IF OP's run it already perhaps it set everything to like -20dB. I've had pretty good results from YPAO before, but I've always had to tweak it. Especially when it comes to subwoofer crossover points. Sometimes it gets me most of the way to being good, but at times it can be WAY off.

I wonder if there is a whisker short between +ve and -ve terminals at either the speaker side or amp side. Sounds like the AVR is going into protection mode to me. Did the OP run a wiring check with YPAO? My older Yamahas detected a wiring problem at different setup times so I went through all the connections and cleared up the issues.
