portable audio advise

I need advise on a solution for a portable cd player/stereo system. Here is our situation. We are a group of bellydancers none of which knows the first thing about stereo equiptment. We have been carrying around a cheap compact stereo system like the kind you can pick up from Walmart for $150. Needless to say the sound is horrible and when we use it outside to perform, the sound is lost. The speakers can't even handle most of the bass in the music we play through it. We need something with much better quality but as simple to use as the compact player. And sturdy on the outside for being carried from place to place if possible. None of us has mixing capabilities so beyond the normal bass, treble, volume, etc not much is needed. The speakers need to be small enough for one of us to carry one at a time. Money is definately an issue and it will probably be something the troupe will have to all chip in on. I'm not talking about a boombox type of thing. I am interested in advise on something more professional with good speakers, monster cable etc. I realize this might be something we would buy in pieces. Oftentimes the speakers are hung on posts if it's an outside venue, sometimes they're set on the ground, or hung on indoor portable speaker stands so they can't be too heavy or large.

Thanks!!

Well you got me, I have no idea what you should use, probably some type of Pro gear from Part Express.

I would like to see some bellydancer pictures though!

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have any weight or volume constraints? You mentioned that you'd need to be able to carry the speakers, but do you have a total constraint (such as the system has to fit with five people in a Civic, or something like that). Just asking as it might help size the system for you.

P.S. I'll be the prude here - Scott, there's no reason to drop the F-bomb at all here, let alone on a new member.

A troupe of belly dancers? Looking for a boom box? The usual suspects have already begun to posture. P-Dawg asks for pic's in the 1st response?

C'mon. I know Mazer is behind this. :)

The OP might be serious. Really, you just never know.
Was there any comment with the neg rep? Any idea how many points it was worth?

It's a little early to tell about the nature of the thread. I guess we'll see. The OP needs to post a budget number so until that happens it's a mute point.

Yeah, that's right. I said "mute". :D BTW: How much can you ladies lift?

As I'm the one who publicly said something about the post, I just want to say for the record that I didn't give you a red chicklet. That's not my style.

Well guys, "It", is back. I've done a little searching and it's a portable pa system that we need. Let's see a budget number.... $300 would be nice. With that low of a budget it may be a used system we will have to settle for. We want it with two speakers not one. I have found some online for $250 but with only one speaker. Weight... ideally if it is in two pieces, I'm guessing 50lbs each that can be pulled along in gigbags on rollers. This sounds about right for one woman to lift out of the back of the van? The only component we need to add to it is a cd player. It will be used outdoors so that is a concern for the speakers I would think? I'm hoping we can get one that an ipod will work with as well. I saw one on ebay for $199 but it is a no-name product and that scares me. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, suggestions related to pa systems that is, and not requests guys ;), it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jennifer

Jamie,

Yes!! This is exactly like what we are looking for. Thank you so much.

I notice your location is Annapolis MD. I have some friends that live in Glen Burnie and play in a local band there. I come down about once every few months to see them play. Small world!!
