I would probably go up to $350 for the PB10

BIC America BICV1020 Venturi 10-inch 160W Subwoofer

I looked into all of the recommended subs and the best deal I can find was the BIC H-100 on overstock.com for $280 shipped. However, I do not like that it is front firing because it will be used for home theater. While I was looking into this I came across the BIC America BICV1020 Venturi 10-inch 160W Subwoofer also on overstock.com. This is a downfiring sub and the specs look better. It is only $170! Does anyone have any info on this sub? the specs look pretty good, and I think it might be better for me than the H100, especially since it is $100 cheaper. Will this be better than the original Sub-120 that was recommended for me?

Your comment on not liking a sub because it is front firing and it will be used for home theater makes no sence...

Pick up the Parts Express SUB-120 before the BICV1020... $20 less and more sub. I wouldn't worry too much about front vs down firing.

If I had a budget of $350, and I was looking to pull the trigger NOW I would get the eD A-350. It's a 12" down firing sub that I have heard no one say anything bad about, only good.

Sure you could find a PB10 used in the same price neighborhood, but will it be shipped at the price you find? Most likely not. Is the PB10 and eD A-350 equivalent in terms of performance? I dunno, but I would pick up a new eD before the used SVS.

To me it looks like you have two choices:

The Parts Express SUB-120 at $148 shipped for giving the best for under $200 or the eD-A350 for $350 shipped. You know that both are new with warranty, you know exactly what the cost is, and you know that you can order both NOW. Waiting on a used PB10 is exactly that: Waiting.

Downfiring vs front firing

I read somewhere on this forum that downfiring is better for HT. This makes sense to me because it will vibrate the hardwood floor and you will be able to feel it (for explosions, etc). If this is really not the case please let me know because I can get the H100 for $250 shipped from overstock.com. Also, am I better off with just purchasing the H100 now or should I wait until I find the HSU STF-2 or SVS PB10 for less than $400.

Downfiring vs forward firing subs make no difference since soundwaves at frequencies that low are omnidirectional...I have a forward firing sub and it shakes my whole apartment (floor included) and I have it decoupled from my floor using an auralex gramma pad.

Yep, my sub is front firing and is decoupled from the Hardwood floor with those fake silicon boobie things and it shakes everything!

The H100 is a good sub also and sits between your low/hi pricing. Kinda like Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

I have two friends that have the H100 and it is indeed a good performing and great looking sub. Again don't worry about front vs down firing.

This is correct, the subwoofer uses the room for loading, where the port is located should have little effect on the sound. The advantage to front ported subwoofers is they can be placed closer to the wall without becoming boomy.:)

Very confused

Ok I spent all day trying to decide on a sub and now I have no idea what I want. I at first wanted to only spend $200, but if it made THAT big of a difference I would be willing to pay an extra $50-100 for a much better sub. It appears that if I wait long enough I can get the best sub (PB10) for $350. I have a huge a room and use it for 75% HT and I am currently running a Sony 75-100W sub so I feel that any of these choices should make a significant difference. It appears that all of these subs were the best for the buck at one point or another, but I want to know which one is now.
I have narrowed it down to either:
SVS PB10
HSU STF2 or STF3
ED A2-300
If I could get any of these for $300-350 which should I pick?
Are these 3 really much better than choosing one of the below that I can get for a price between $200-250?
Onix X Sub
BIC H-100

Out of your list, for $350 I would get the eD-A350, not the 300 mind you, but the 350. It is $350 shipped and IMO give you the best bang for the buck (even over the HSU).

If wanted to stay between $200-$300 then the BIC H100, if I wanted to stay below $200, then the Parts Express SUB-120.

FYI, I am not considering a used PB10 in my opinion here. Just apples to apples new stuff. Used is enough of a variable that I don't want to bother accounting for it.

After reading some of the stories about people not being able to get customer support from Elemental when they had problems, I would have to say skip that one for now.

eD's got some growing pains, a log jam getting the boxes through paint, sometimes when they get overwhelmed they are a little slow getting back compared to most ID models, but they are trying. craigsub, liked the A2-300 quite a bit. It's for real. The A350 is better and they are tweaking their designs to improve even more. Yeah, it takes 3 weeks to a month to get your sub, but for $350 they are carving a new quality/price point niche.
