How did you model the driver in a transmission line enclosure? Personally I agree with the JBL driver choice as they have been built with excellent results. As for car subs being better than home subs, I'm quite sure that the needs are totally different. As an example the sub you are thinking about would require a engineering miracle, or massive eq to work for home theater use. Take a look a look in the diy section for some ideas.

I've spent some time today finding the right subs and I'm going with two of these https://www.skaraudio.com/collections/ix-series/products/ix-8?variant=17677557121. Beefy sub for $39, free shipping and quite honestly probably better than 75% of what's on the market for home audio subs. I fairly certain I can wire in series for get to 8 ohms. From what I've read I should be able to skate by with an El cheapo plate amp. Probably around the 150 watt range. I will build the box myself with 3/4" ply. Most likely a transmission line box. I'll take pics along the way and create a new thread when completed. This is taking me back to my car audio days from younger years. I'm sure the box I build will be 100% better than back then using only a skil saw and hammer and nails. Ha

I respectfully disagree with the notion of a car audio sub not being able to emit bass in a home theater environment. Car audio subs are way better then home audio and subs are subs. You can't tell me that doesn't excite you. Yes the infinity may be a proven commodity but, isn't there always room for improvement?

I'm not saying car audio subs can't work in home applications, as subs don't know where they are placed. What I am saying is without massive eq and amplification, the sub your looking at won't go low enough for home use . Even with both applied it isn't intended to. You have to model woofers to determine what can be done. You said transmission line , and I'll ask again how do you model it? With a fs in the upper 40s how are you going to make it to the 20s or lower.

As for the video its laughable, as at 27 hz it's chuffing, like me running a mile

Car audio drivers are fine, but not all of them are designed with the same parameters in mind as a home audio driver would be. Two very different environments. Car expects high cabin gain, while home has considerably less and car audio subs typically tend toward parameters for the smallest cabinet sizes due to space limitations.

When I modeled the sub in bass box pro with the limited specs from their website, it started rolling off above 160hz, hence the eq and amp comment. Since the driver is more suited to a small sealed enclouser you need both to achieve usable bass below 40hz., although not advised.

The sub I linked for the infinity drivers would get you in under 500 including an amp with eq and crossover. The subs and wood by itself under 175. If you want to spend a little more then this would be a good option under 600 for your room size. Both would have a retail price of around 1k if sold that way.

That's what it would take for that room and the 115 got a decent write up from AH. Last time I checked, they weren't going for under $300 though...

The only thing that drives me nuts about subwoofers, is the distance settings for them. One person to tells you use a tape measure, the next tells you use what the auto calibration sets. Which is it ?? FOR SURE

Not to side track the the thread, but from my experience unless you cross a sub into the vocal range , distance hasn't mattered audibly. I always correct with spl meter, but haven't heard a difference in sq.

IIRC, I've never had a discrepancy more than 6/9 feet from the main seating . Hadn't noticed any sq issues prior to adjusting. Once I started EQing my subs separately haven't checked.
