how are the RTi10s for listening to music, powered by a NAD C272?

im 70%music 30% movies

To answer your original question, the C272, @ 150W, will power the RTi-10s just fine. The catch, with the 10/12s, is that they really do need an amp to power them properly. I think these days, most people are better off with a speaker/sub system than trying to get the full frequency range out of a single speaker. It’s a matter of preference though. I continually recommend the Polk 8s or many other quality speakers in conjunction with a good sub for best music/HT performance. When it comes to speaker choice, it’s your ears that matter.

BTW, how big is your space? Some have complained about Polk's brightness in smaller spaces.

I didn't find the 8s to be that bright compared to previous Polks, and the room I listened in is relatively bright. They aren't as smooth as the LSis, but they are fairly clean. Midrange is good, but they just didn't have quite the midrange detail I look for in a speaker (neither did the LSis).

I'd probably give B&W www.bwspeakers.com and Mordaunt Short www.mordauntshort.com a listen, check their sites for dealers. www.ac4l.com carries Mordaunt Short at discounted prices too. Both are good for music IMO.

Internet direct, I'd look at the Ascend CMT-340s with a sub. www.ascendacoustics.com or the offerings from www.axiomaudio.com and www.av123.com

yes for the fronts, im working on a stereo system, then slowly add on components to make it a home theater system.... for example right now i have polk rti6's for front 2 channels,, and they sound lovely off of my old school onkyo sv646, once i decide on my fronts the rti6's will become the rear surrounds

the nad c272 is a 2 channel anp....150 watts per channel minimum 8/4 ohms
yes i intend to get a sub svs pb12plus later down the road

the rooms is 20 x 25, i dont think i has great acoustics though , it has two French doors that lead to another room that usually remain open....

as far as brightness is concerned, its not really an issue for me im not too technical, i dont know if its the right way to fix the brightness probelm, but i just lower the trebble

i have a pair of rti6's i think they sound great... and i wll be adding a sub(pb12plus) after i purchase my front mains its gonna be a while befor i complete my HT setup

yikes i priced the mordaunt Performance 6's $6,500, more than 5 times my budget, thanks for your suggestion the B&W's look like fine speakers awell

all the brands you listed look very nice, thanks for your input, im not sure how i will be listening to music later on down the road, cuz ive never had a kick @ss surround system, i might just like how the music sounds vs only in front of me. but from a car audio point of view i have always liked a solid fronstage, and never liked to have much rear fill

Look at the Mordaunt Short 900 series, they are in your price range. They have been favorably reviewed here at AH, and even selected as part of recommended systems. The Peformance line is a bit higher end

I would buy the sub first. You already like the sound of your rti6's and you know you want a sub. Get the sub to fill in the bottom and see if it's the over all sound your looking for. If it is you just saved your self some money. Go buy a center channel and another pair of 6's and ROCK ON!!!

If you go polk, go with 10/12s!!!! I own the 8 and they're fine for movies, really clear in voices and sound effects. But there's a catch for music though, especially rock and metal music. The 8s have 3 drivers. A tweeter and 2 mids/lows. But the 2 mid/lows are NOT crossed-over. That means that the two mids plays mids. That's too much! And then you're left with a tweeter that has to get louder to mach. Very harsh at high SPLs

The 10s Have 4 drivers I think. 1 tweeter, 1 mid, and two lows that are all separate. Buy the 12s only if you don't get a sub. I've listened to them side by side with the same amp and the difference is huge! I'm really disappointed in these speakers for music reproduction. But for movies though, EXCELLENT! I own the 5.1 set (the .1 being a 10inches velodyne). That why I bought a stereo sound system hooked up on my computer for music listening. NAD with Energies.

Get out there, find audio stores that you didn't even knew existed and LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN

That's my two cents and a half
