POLK R Series Question

I have polk r-15's and r-30's. On Polks site they say the speakers are 8 ohm compatible. I measured them with a mutimeter and they read 4 ohms. So are these speakers 8 or 4 ohm?

Your multimeter won't give a valid answer. It can only measure static resistance, not impedance. The impedance of a speaker will vary by frequency across the whole frequency spectrum and will be very high, for instance, at the box resonance frequencies.

But it doesn't matter. Any competant amp or receiver will drive them just fine as long as they have enough output power.

so 8 ohm compatible means they are 8 ohms then?

8 ohms average, they will go over 8 ohms sometimes and under 8 ohms sometimes.

It will vary across the frequency spectrum. If your amp is 4 ohm capable you will be fine. (if this is what you are worried about.)

Yes, those are 8 ohm speakers, you should be able to drive them with pretty much any receiver. They are excellent budget speakers, and what I used in one of my previous systems, I was impressed with them for what I paid.

Regardless of what they measure out to be, they are very easy to drive. It won't be a problem driving them with just about any receiver.
