Still asking about the receiver, powered monitors, and subwoofer.

I ran into a 450 dollar B&W monitor at best buy that sounded pretty bad. Kinda turned me off B&W. The only reason I'm buying these polks ATM is the discount. If I got a discount from B&W i would consider it. For the time being, I am trying to stick to something a little less commercial (obviously aside from the polks).

I will have to check out the other brands.

My budget for the monitors is more fleixble. If it's okay with you guys, I'd like to ask what's the best deal for the kind of production I outlined for between 600 and 1200 bux (for the pair) and then a sub for around the same price.

Thanks for the advice, so far.

IMO it's not always about getting the best deals & discounts. It should be about getting the best sound & brand name within your budget.

One example is the Focal 706V for $500/pr. It is made in France. It has a 6.5" polyglass woofer & 1" magnesium-aluminum tweeter. It has a sensitivity of 90dB. MSRP is $700. Free shipping + 30-day return policy.

For subs, get the SVS PB12-NSD or something from HSU or Rythmik.

Look, if you are really interested in setting up a studio, you need a monitor the pros use.

The best value in these speakers is the Dynaudio active line of speakers.

They are designed for the near filed and will plug right into the output of your mix desk. No need for a crummy receiver.

Thanks guys, big help on those last 3 posts.

The receiver isn't for powering the monitors. I just need something to power the LSiMs. Unless the receiver I have is a decent one: Onkyo TX-SR503. However, the Surround Right channel is producing a lot of white noise (pink noise?). Other than that it works fine.

I'm really diggin the look of that SVS sub, y0.

I would give the Polk's a shot they are probably pretty good. Especially at 600. That's a great price. If you don't like them you can sell them for a profit or pass the deal along to someone else. This is a win win situation. Get the Polk's.

Once I get them in the right spot, how do I file them down?

With an audio file ;)

I think "filed" was a typo. He meant to say "near field".

A near field speaker, such as in studio monitors, has a crossover that allows the woofer & tweeter to produce properly balanced sound when the listener is sitting closer to them than is usually done with home audio.

SO! I am finally going to purchase my speaks!

And I have finally decided where to get my monitors. I'll be hitting up SVS for dem!

I did consider the dynaudios, but after asking around and doing research, Dynaudio seems invariably overpriced....for everything.

I just want to say thanks for all the help guys! Also, thankyou for the warm welcome to your forum! (this is my first thread/bunch of posts)

I will be posting in the PROPER section from now on for my future needs (still need an amp).
