Who has or had Polk Audio LSiM bookshelf 703 or the Tower 705.
What did you like or didn't like about them? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Polk uses a modified version of the Vifa XT25 Ring Radiator tweeter. Personally, I have never heard them. But, Ty albeit Tyler Acoustics used to use the XT25 in his entry-level Freedom line of speakers. I must say that I really liked what I heard. The top end was very smooth and wide. In fact, one of the widest that I have ever experienced.

Cheers,

Phil

Not a lot of experience with Polk outside of Best Buy. I'd like to get out and hear some stuff from their higher end lines, but I dont recall anything from Polk in the Magnolia room. I've read good things, though some say they're a little overpriced IIRC...

I agree that the LSiM's are very expensive. However, Polk has a sale of them every year for half-price. In fact, not too long ago the LSiM's were half priced. When on sale, things become more interesting. The XT25 Ring Radiator Tweeter is an impressive driver. However, Polk modified it. Hopefully, enhancing its capabilities.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the responses to my questions about Polks LSiM line. I do appreciate it from everyone on this thread. I am researching speakers, and have been for many years. Thing is the ones I really like are out of my price range. I had the LSi line really like them but the 8" woofer in the Lsi-15's in the lower cabinet wasn't umm...how can I put this, sounded a lil bloated at higher volume levels. Now before I get bushwhacked by some of you guys who have a lot more knowledge of speaker design and building than I do. #1. Yes I gave them room to breathe. #2. Yes they where toed in. #3. I had both on isolation pads and #5. I had bass traps right behind them, had sheetrock walls plus wooden floors also. After researching speaker designs I have come to realize that Towers with a "Sub" in the lower cabinet and with that speaker design also having a power port at the bottom of the cabinet, May not be for me. I have read if Polk would have went with a "better" driver in the lower cabinet and better crossover things would have been a whole for the better with the LSi Towers. It is way I asked about the LSiM..The upper design in the way it was, I never had a problem with it. Pretty much the best upper end sounding speaker I have owned. I have heard from others who have the LSiM's a test run " beta testing" That the Flagship sounded a lil bloated also. It was also said that they where in a room with no room treatments and not much else as far as that goes either

Walked in one of those rooms, didn't test run any of the speaker lines in that room, they had B&W,s which I like a Lot!. Martin Logan,s and so on.

You know, I just realized I don't know what you have for a system. Are you running a sub(s)? I'm in camp bookshelf with a sub or 2. You can get some really nice bookshelf speakers for the same money that will get you some "decent" towers.

Porge,

My set up is a very modest one right now. Onkyo TX-NR656 no pre-outs, Polk M60'll's,Polk center and surrounds, Polk sub 505, Onkyo D390 6D player, Technica TT. LG-blu ray, 12 gage AWG speaker wire, home made bass traps two of them. Phil the more I hang out in here I am starting to believe the better value for my hard bucks would be bookshelfs with a better Sub. I am seeing a Lot of others have gone that route without having to spend a ton and are ending up with better results. Look I just sign up in here recently not but weeks ago, and already getting it straight from the threads with the links you guys back it up with. Y'all talking about telling me I should have done a lot me research, with this hobby of mine. You TCL Guy, lovinthhd..have opened my eyes to just how much "snake oil"
is really out there. I will say this again If it wasn't for "lovinthehd"wouldn't have cared in helping me out to better understand "damping factor" with those links I wouldn't have read as much as I am now from those links from the Ones who actually are the ones who designed and build the gear.I pick a little to much sometimes hope I didn,t offend "lovinthehd". I consider him well schooled like many other ole timers in here. So with that said I ask you ole timers in here please have a little patience with me in here. As long as I have been in the hobby it's not always a easy thing to ask the right question, when the right knowledge is lacking in that field. It is the main reason I joined up on Audioholic's site in the first place. Out of every forum this site has always had the best advice and recommendations.

The 703 has a very good response. Those are very good measurements. I have heard the LSi series speakers on several occasions, never at any serious length though, but they always sounded good to my ears. I wouldn't mind owning some.

I'm just learning how to read the spectral decay waterfall plots. Those are among the best I've seen. Very nice.

I started getting into Home Theater with a Onkyo 7.1 system. I sold it, and I bought the Polk Audio Monitor 70 series towers x 6 and monitor series center, combines with 2 Klipsch 12" subs for a 7.2 set up. It sounded decent for movies, but it was just ear bleeding painful for music.

The tweeter in the monitor series is just too bright for me. So, I went to the RTiA series, and I found that the tweeter was still too bright for my taste. So, I wanted to move up to the LSiM series, and I just couldn't afford it at the time.

After months of searching for a neutral tweeter, I ended up buying the Arx A3 speakers. They sounded great for music. I then ended up losing a lot of $$$ selling the A3's, and I upgraded to the now Chane A5rx-c, which sound great for music and have better mid-range than the A3's.

So, in my person opinion, if you listen to a lot of music like I do, I would recommend looking for a speaker that plays music well, and the way you like it. Everyone is different. So, if you can audition as many speakers as you can before you make your decision. Spend the most that you can on the front set up since it will be one that does the most work.

I almost sold my A5rx-c and A2rx-c set up because I wanted to give the LSiM 703's and 706c a try when they were on sale, but then again, I don't think that would be much of an upgrade.

So, I'm going to wait for a year or so, and thereafter I will look for a substantial upgrade. I've been looking at the Legacy and Revel speakers, but at the moment I don't think my wife will let me spend that kind of money lol.
