Polk Audio RTi 12s good speakers?

Hi are the polk RTi 12's good loudspeakers. on paper they look fairily impressive for 1600$ a pair, but i am new to audio and i have been wrong before.... a lot. If you can recomend these speakers they will go great with my budget as the have excellent mid bass via 3 7 inch woofers. i will have a svs ultra sub to compliment these so low bass is not an issue. just looking for some opinions

Don't expect a lot of bass out of those speakers unless you have a flagship receiver, or separate power amp driving them. If you do, I'd check Ebay. Right now, someone has the RTi10's and 12's for a lot less than $1600. Yes, they are amazing speakers, but they require some real power to get them to their potential.

You can get a great B stock receiver for $500 - $700, or a new unit for around $1000 . You can also get a less expensive unit with pre-outs that allow you to connect a two channel power amp to drive your front towers speakers. Good used two channel power amps can be had off ebay for $300-$500.

It really doesn't matter if other people like these speakers or not. Everybody has their own personal taste and requirements. You need to go with what you like. As for myself, I have the RTi 12s. I like Polk Audio and have always thought they were a great bargain. I'm well aware that there are many other speakers that are better than these, but I got them new for $320 ea. For that price they are unbeatable.

I don't personally have any experience with the Polks, but in my reading, most people claimed that the RTi-12 was bass-heavy, and washed out some of the mid-tones. Most reported the RTi-8 as being actually the best-sounding in the line-up, especially if you have even a moderate-quality subwoofer.

it might be something to pay attention to when you go do auditions.

From my auditioning experience, I've found this to be the case. I would take the RTi-8s over the 12s for this reason. I thought both the 10s and the 12s sounded a bit muddy compared to the 8s. I listened to them thru both an Onkyo and Yamaha receiver alone so part of the problem may have been lack of power. Regardless, Polks are great sounding but demanding speakers. You'll need some power behind them to make them sound good.
