hey guys ive started running my wires for my 7.1 and while i was in the attick i started to worry about the heat being a factor for the wires laying on the insulation, i know that they sell IN WALL wire but was wondering is it needed, im at a stopping point so i need a response fast. i freaking hate being up their, thanks

Well, if you are running the wires in your walls (in addition to through your attic), then either get in-wall rated wire or check your local codes. The in-wall wires are more fire resistant and are required by code in many places. I don't know if that's true if you are only running wire in an attic, but I imagine that the wire is getting to/coming from the attic somewhere - possibly through walls.

I think the in-wall rated wires have better sheilding for interferernce.

Why take the chance?

Monoprice.com sells in-wall rated speaker wires at a fraction of the cost of the other guys.

I think 500-ft is only like $130?:D

And if you want it now (well, tomorrow), I think that you can still get it fairly cheap at Home Depot or maybe Lowes.

thanks well ive already bought the 14gauge wire and ran all but one already, ive got one more, then i thought about it. i ran it straight to the celing and over the insulation. i know the best thing is to buy the in wall and take the loss but i dont wont to get back up their anymore. i hate breating that crap. if its ok for like a few months ill pay somebody to swap it out later.

UL CL-2-rated certified cables is the safe way.

Just don't tell anyone. ;)

Of course, the proper course is to use UL CL-2-rated in wall speaker cables of 14awg or better yet 12awg. It is just more safe with their double external insulation.

Or buy some plastic tubing to envelopp your existing 14awg speaker cables.

Anyway, you should not have any problem, but if your house burn down, at least you'll know why. :D

P.S. Don't be afraid to return to your attic, just wear a mechanic suit with a swimming head cap, and swimming goggles, plus swimming nose clamp, and a surgeon face mask. :D
Oh, and surgeon gloves too with cowboy boots.
You should look the perfect fit for the job, like a pro.

If you didn't staple it down you can always feed the wire with the other wire:)

Or let the pack rats do the job for you. :D
They can feed on it too.

Bad idea. AV installers charge roughly $75 per hour and the job requires two people (one downstairs and one in the attic). It will end up costing you $900 or more.

Go buy the correct CL-2 or higher rated wire and do it right. You can take your time and do it over several days or more and since the wire is already there and you know where it is, you can tie the new wire to the old and pull it on through.

Do it right, your house and it's inhabitants will live longer.

^ That's the right idea and the proper way to do it. ^
