I hope this is just talk and not really their idea for a new sequel:

You can't take an iconic character done by an iconic actor and redo it again. It will be cheesy at best and totally irrelevant to the new prequel type storyline. I guess I am naive to think they will actually produce a unique and genuinely substantive movie after the last abortion they did which was a huge box office smash and a favorite among 13 yr old girls who think Jonas Brothers makes good music.

I wouldn't be so sure, but I doubt they would even try.

Still the last Star Trek movie was better than you give it credit for. It's not like most of the original movies were any better. ;) Besides Gene the last one was an Odd.

The effects and action sets were terriffic. The characters were generally well played and well cast. The plot made no sense at all and the premises were far-fetched to be polite. Then again, the last Star-Trek I genuinely liked (despite its flaws) was IV... well, and the first 20minutes of First Contact (though why they didn't solve their "want the Enterprise but don't trust Picard" problem by putting Riker temporarily in charge I have no idea).

I don't know who he would have been up against but Ricardo should have won an oscar for that role. That movie is by far my favorite of the Star Trek franchise.

BTW, I like the "Supreme Overlord" title. I just noticed it.

Here is a list of my problems with the last Star Trek Movie which overall was an OK movie if you pretend it had nothing to do with Star Trek and was in fact just a SciFi movie:

These reasons carry over to why if they do another movie based on Khan they will royally screw it up and it will be lame. The battle scenes will likely suck to, just more extreme and shakey camera close ups of overdone CGI graphics.

Why, not???

They've pretty much started the whole series over again. They can revisit any of the planets/problems they have encountered in the previous movies and TV shows and play them out differently, since everything about the characters have changed.

I'm not saying that it won't be a disaster if they cast Khaan again, but they could do it, they would just have to find the right person for the part and have a good enough script.

I personally like what they have done with the movie, and I understand everything that they have done. I look forward to the next movies and hope that they can keep the same cast members for a long time.

Khan had a history in the original series as he did in the movie.
So, why can't they just show that earlier history of Khan that sent him into kind of an exile?

After all, we see Kirk in his beginnings.

B/C Khan was a product of the 20th century. If they did a movie based on that time, the Enterprise you would see would be our Space Shuttle :)

If I remember correctly, didn't Kirk find Khan and his crew floating in space in a some kind of container? They were all cryogenically frozen, and Kirk picked them up, thawed them, and Khan tried to take over the Enterprise when Kirk finally marooned them on a planet.

That's what I remember, but I could be wrong. Anyways, why can't they show that part where they first discover Khan? Things can play out differently now since there are some differences in characters due to the changed events.

Gene, I gotta hand it to you that was a well done post.

I agree that the old stuff was better. I'm grew up with TNG/DS9/Voyager. I appreciated the depth of some of these episodes more as I watched them recently.

I'm not a trekkie though so I was unaware of the mess-ups.
