Please help - Zone 2

I'm hoping someone can help. I'm trying to hook up my patio speakers to my Yamaha RX-V663 receiver and can't figure out how to do it. The speaker wires (4) from the receiver run to a rotary detented switch on the patio and (2) sets of (2) wires running to the speakers. I took out the switch - it is a heavy switch with coils and a circuit board. What is this switch and what is the proper way to hook up to the receiver? Thanks in advance for your help!

The rotary thing you are refering to is actually a volume control. There should be an input and output side of the volume control. Just run the speaker wires from the zone 2 on the amp to the input of the volume control, then the output from the volume control to the speakers. Most volume controls only support 1 pair of speakers. if you intend to run more than 1 pair you will need more volume controls and a external speaker selector. post back with any more questions.

Peace,
Tommy

edit: I should add, if you want the zone 2 speakers to work you just need to turn it on with the button labeled zone 2 on your amp.

Thanks for your help. I hooked them up and get very low volumn through them. I went into xone 2 setup and set max volumn as high as it would go (+16.5 db) and don't get much sound. There are 11 clicks (positions) on the outside control and I have to turn it up 7 clicks before I can hear anything. Any ideas?

you can try swapping the connections on the back of the amp, from zone 2 to the main speaker terminals and see if the volume on the speakers get louder. If it does there may still be some set up issues in the zone 2 menu. If not then there may be something wrong with the volume control or the speakers.

Peace,
Tommy

can you see a model number or a name on the volume control? I recently connected 3 of the on Q brand in my new home.I noticed that the actual terminal blocks can be disconnected from the circuit board. The terminal blocks are labeled on mine and also the circuit board is labeled. they could be reconnected in the wrong position on the circuit board(input terminal block on the output of the board/output on the input side of the board. the circuit board should be clearly marked as should the terminal block. Just a thought.

Peace,
Tommy
