Hello folks, I'm new the forum, and also to home audio. I have been trying to piece together a system with limited funds, and it seems to have bit me in the butt. Anyway, I got a set of Cerwin Vega AVS-632 5.1 speakers, and was looking for a good but lower priced reciever/amp. Well, browsing online one day, I ran into a deal online where a Denon AVR-883 was for sale as an open box item for $250. When I researched this and found that it was the same as the AVR-1803, and read some reviews, I was very impressed and decided to purchase this item.
Well, got it finally and hooked up a Panasonic 5 disc DVD changer to it with an optical cable, put it a DTS Music DVD and was blown away...loved the sound. Anyway, then I go to playing with the thing , and found that when the DVD player would turn of automatically after a certain time of non-use, it left this annoying popping/clicking heard on all the speakers. I reset the microsprocessor, and this stopped so I started breathing again, only to find out that if I hooked a regular stereo source to the thing and tried any of the surround features it only sent hissing and crackling out the speakers, but on regular stereo mode it works fine. These problems are complicated becuse there was one time that the AVR-883 worked great in surround mode, and it still does if I use the optical cable sometimes. Then it started the whole popping/clicking noises again when you turn of the source while it is still in surround mode. Anyway, this is all confusing to me, and I'm probably confusing whomever is reading this...so I'll stop. If anyone, can be so kind as to tell me if I need to just give and send the thing back, or if this is fixable, I would owe you big time. I really don't want to send it back..because when it works...I LOVE IT...but crap its not working right. Plus I don't want to have to pay to ship it back either... When thanks ahead of time for your time.
Sincerly
