Maybe for now, you can get powered monitors. The KRK RP5 G2 comes up as one of the top options for <$300 budget.

I'm having to make some really tough decisions here. I really like having bass. As I do happen to play video games and watch movies quite often. Just to give you guys some perspective.. I'm 17 years old and will be getting a job sometime in the near future (about a year from now). But right now I pretty much have no income other than the lunch money I get for school ($20-30 a week).

I've managed to barely squeeze my budget up to $400.

I'm just not really sure I can survive without a sub. Honestly I think I will still be using my headphones for my music because I'm still a little embarrassed to the music I listen to (alternative/rock).

Tread very very very carefully my friend. You are getting sucked into a "hobby" that will haunt you forever. You also get a life long disease. UPGRADE-ITIS. There will always be a "weak link" to fix, better quality to chase, more sound stage to be discovered. It is never ending. Quit now, never come back and be happy with what you have.

But, since you will not listen to us adults ...

I second the suggestion to put all your money towads a sub. DIY like a package from Dayton will give you best bang for buck. Also look into Bic America, their subs have good reviews here. Later get the fronts speakers with an entry level reciver.

Yeah, I know :D

Thanks for all you help, I think I'll stick with my original idea of getting a good subwoofer, and also get that Sansa :)
