Yamaha makes really nice AVRs.
I agree with this... and this is pretty nitpicky.. but... and I know that avr's should be pretty transparent.. but they arent and onkyo "seems" to be a better match for the Klipsch stuff in my experience. I like the yammy stuff better across the board, but they seem to "expose" the weaknesses of the Klipsch stuff while the onkyo tames them a bit... That may or may not make sense... just my opinion of course... we all hear differently...

I'm sure it will sound better and even if my unrefined ears can't tell the diff...I'll still feel better about how my dollars were spent just knowing you knowledgeable guys over here steered me in the direction I'm heading.
The great thing about getting a great sub that is a good match for your room size is that you don't have to have audiophile ears to notice. You will literally feel the difference. I had a Klipsch KSW12 a few years ago and I thought it was decent until I heard my buddies SVS PB12 Plus X2. Wow it was like Kia vs Mercedes.

I think that is a good choice on the receiver as the Onkyo's are very good on features and performance for the price. I just did an install for one of my friends with an Onkyo 705 with Klipsch mains and it sounds very good. I am not a huge fan of Klipsch speakers for music but they make a damn good speaker when it comes to H/T applications.

Another option is to buy used stuff, in a deteriorating economy there are some deals to be had, I know because I just got one myself. In purchasing a receiver I made the mistake of not getting one with preamp outputs, even thought this may not interest you at the time, believe it or not this habit becomes a bit addicting, you may want to take advantage of an amp later. I would consider purchasing them somewhere other than the box stores, and if you are willing to be patient and buy used speakers you can certainly get alot more bang for the buck. Happy hunting, and you certainly came to the right place seeking advice, I have been very happy with all of the advice that has been given to me, and I greatly appreciate everyone here.

Very good point murl. There is an HSU ULS15 for sale and that would be an absolute killer sub for your needs. You can find the for sale post here.

There are also a few sales going on for receivers as well so I would have a peek and see whats what.

Good luck with your audio endeavors.

I know where there are Deftech BP2000s, a CLR 2000, and 2 BPX surrounds listed for $1500, you could probably buy it for $1300, that would be a steal and I feel like it would be a better deal than the Klipsch, but you need to buy what makes you happy. Guidance from people on this board is great, and there are very knowledgable people here who I respect, but at the end of the day you need to like what you have and be able to enjoy it.

Well, the Synergy is packed up and ready to go back tomorrow. Thanks everyone. Murl, thanks for the info above. I do think I'm still going to go with the R52's and the Onkyo. Also, the HSU or the SVS sub.

One more question though, I came across the Klipsch RT10d sub for a mere $799.88, which the MSRP is $1799.88...$1000 savings. Seems like a good deal but even at this price, does it match up at all with the SVS or HSU?

Thanks

That is a pretty decent sub honestly.... Not for 1799, but for 800 bucks you'll have your hands full to beat it. In room response can reach 17hz or so but in the neighborhood of like 9db down if I remember correctly. It also gets INSANE loud. Around the 120db range. The numbers are good, the sound is pretty good, the DCS is a really nice feature. It has some built in room correction features what would normally require additional hardware. The sub looks good and doesnt take up a ton of space (made for a corner obviously). Short of DIY, its gonna be tough to beat it for that kind of coin. I say go for it... Any discounts available on the 12D?

EDIT... I'd love to hear it side by side against the HSU VTF-3 MK3... I'd put my money on the Klipsch having heard both of them, But I remember being very impressed with the HSU... Is the 800 with or w/out any shipping?

12" is $2199.77....ouch! I may just go for this one. The 10" is $799.88 w/ free shipping. It is sounding like it was good that I asked about this one. Sounds like maybe the most bang for the buck? Just when I thought I had my mind all made up.....

So, I'm asking....if it were you, which one? Answer honestly, I value everyone's opinion.

Would you be willing to spend the cash for the higher end SVS or HSU (1500+)?

If not... Go with the Klipsch. Thats a lot of sub for the money. I cant think of anything that would BEAT it unless you considered maybe putting one together yourself, But that may not be something you're interested in.

Thats a killer setup for only about 500 more than you originally spent. That setup will beat the pants off that synergy setup. I'm confident that you wont be disappointed with that upgrade. Thats a really solid movie setup. We will of course need pictures... This thread makes me want go listen to the RF83's again. I honestly miss the RC64.

Adwilk,

Big thanks to you and everyone else who has made this process much easier. I just wish I would've found this place before buying the Synergy line...but at least now I have something to use as a reference point.

No, I wouldn't be willing to spend in the $1500 range for a sub at this time. I've gotta keep the wife happy and that might be the proverbial "straw". Also, I'm really big into DIY on a lot of things but I don't know jack about putting a sub together. It would be fun to experiment w/ but I already have too many irons in the fire.

Of course, pics will be posted. I have a delivery date of Tues 3/31.

For the money, I'd go with the HSU VTF-3 MK3 or EPIK Vanquish instead.

NOT THAT SUB!!!

Whew...thought you might have missed that part. You can get the SVS SB12-Plus for the same money as that sub as well as the any of the other subs mentioned. There's no value in that sub for that price.

FYI that receiver is 300 at Accessories4less

http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXSR606/Onkyo/TX-SR606-90w-x-7ch-HDMI-Theater-Receiver-BLACK/1.html

That is an unreal deal. If you want a 606.

Move on it before it goes out of stock.

Don't overpay. Also check out similarly priced amps. a 706 is about the same price and a step up from the 606.
