I want to buy new speakers. It will be for a small living room in a San Francisco apartment. I'm looking for a whole new system with great sound (with respect to neighbors). The receiver will also be hooked up to Pioneer CDJ-800s (CD Turntables).

I'm considering the Aperion 422s system for $800, the Mordaunt-Short Avant Premiere MS300 system for $450 (price without sub), and the Axiom system for $1300+. This site gave the Mordaunt-Short Avant system the slight edge.

 in SF

Thanks!

David

I have read it. That review does not cover the new Aperion 422 system. Have you heard anything about the new system from Aperion?

You might also want to check out HSU's new package deals - the VT-12 + STF-2 for $559 is pretty good.

I have MS 902s, and I have to say I have been impressed with MS so far. Build quality is first rate and sound quality is excellent. If you have a larger room though, the 300s may struggle. I read a review of the 300 package about a year ago in What HiFi and they gave it a glowing review.

Alternitives to HTIB

In that price range, you desirve better than a HTIB.
I would strongly consider an Axiom audio bookshelf system with M22ti fronts, M100 center, and QS4, QS8, or M2i rears. Pair this with an entry level sub from SVS or HSU for a real HT speaker system.

For comparable performance from Mordaunt-Short, look at the Avant premeir 900 series. You can find good prices at www.ac4l.com
Both of these systems are featured on Audioholics what to buy page and are coupled with high end electronics to utilize their full potential.
