Hi all,
I am trying to hook up a multi room setup and cant get the darn thing to work.
Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Have a Harmon kardon 3480,
ran 16G speaker wire off "speaker 1" (L+,L-,R+,R-) into a Niles speaker ditribution hub. Then I ran wiring (L+,L-,R+,R-) to 4 impedance matching volume controls (set on 4x). Then each vol. control goes to a pair of speakers.

When I turn it on, I get sound for only a sec. then it goes into protect mode.
So obviously I am an idiot, but I cant tell where I screwed up.
Any help?

Thanks!

For some reason, you're overloading the receiver. Check to make sure no wire strands are touching each other. Solder the tips or use banana ends if possible. Second, what type of speakers are you running? You shouldn't run both sets of speakers off the hub at the same time - especially if they are demanding speakers (lower ohm or low spl rating).

Thanks for the reply.
I actually am running a total of 8 speakers (4 pair), but all go thru a IM vol. control. So I think the impedance is ok.
Its a 120w receiver, so each each pair is getting 30w. I thought that is enough for background music.

The hub is designed to accomadate up to 8 pair of speakers.

can you post the specs of your niles speaker hub and volume controls ...
while you're at it, post the speakers specs as well :)

what is the ohms rating of your speakers?

if the hub and vol. control look fine, follow buckeye's suggestion about the wiring (wires touching each other because the vol. control +-+- where you stick the wires are pretty close together)
