One thing i forgot to mention and say is that the cones on paradigms reference speakers are very rigid...and i noticed that even the bass drivers on my 60's v5 needs a lot of power to play loud!..does that have something to do with it maybe?...is my av receiver not powerfull enough?...pioneer vsx-92 thx...130 watts per channels..??
What you assume to be "a lot of power" may actually be 2 watts or so.

THe S60 is rated at 89 dB sensitivity, which by all means you should be able to drive to reference levels (105 db peaks) in-room with 130 wpc. As a 2.5 way design, AFAIK there is no high pass filter stopping the mid on that speaker from receiving bass. The bass drivers augment the bass, but there's nothing stopping the midrange from trying to reproduce bass.

OTOH, the CCP 590 is a 3 way design crossed at 400 hz (2nd order high pass on mid). The midrange probably just isn't receiving enough of a bass signal to make it move.

what i mean is that compared to the monitor11 v5 i had the studio 60' v5 seems to be effortless and even at loud volume the bass and mid woofers dont really move in and out compared to the 7inches woofers on the monitors! and they produce tighter and better bass extention without really working compared to the monitor 11v5......quality and build differences i guess!...

I have noticed a similar thing with my center channel

Hi,

I have a Paradigm CC-190 center channel and I have also noticed almost zero movement of the two 5.5 inch bass drivers, even at healthy volumes. I wondered if I had a defective product but there is nothing wrong with the sound. If all I had working were the tweeter and the little white midrange cone, this center channel would sound like a Bozo cube. And it certainly does not. It's very full-bodied. I found your thread interesting.

If you can't laugh at yourself....:D

Sorry, I know there's a language barriar and it makes seemingly simple questions difficult to answer at times. I was literally thinking of the cone, the concave part of the midrange. It was difficult to understand how it could be producing sound, yet not making any slight vibration at all. A midrange could have a buzzing sensation when touching it for example. But since you were refering the the phase plug we were literally on two different thought processes.

I apologize if I offended you.:)
